TSH

by alybaker, Feb 22, 2008 08:37PM
Hi I am 19 years old and I've been very fatigued, sore, having like dull achy chest discomfort, and have a hard time breathing during physical activity. when i went to my doctor they did a blood panel and told me that my TSH level was 8.5. They then did another test to confirm it and it went back to a normal range. My doctor did a third blood test and it was up again. It's been over a month since then and she wants me to wait two months and do the test again. My question was what would cause this fluctuation. I was doing some research and saw that the TSH hormone is directly related to the pituitary gland in your brain and not your actually thyroid gland. So does this mean I have some wrong with my pituitary gland and I don't have hypothyroidism? Should I be conserned about my chest pain?

TSH is "THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE" it is your thyroid gland producing the level.

I am so confused.  TSH 8.5 when was that done? You had three tests? right?? list them:

#1 post the TSH here and month

#2  do the same

#3  do the same.

Your question is so vague - I shy from commenting -  8.5 TSH is hypo in reference - but chest pain is your only symptom? Did your doctor suggest anything else. maybe cardio or asthma too?

Sorry I can't read this to really look at the whole picture. Can you post back more info?

ya it started like three months ago im not sure of the date, but the chest discomfort happens the more physical activity i do. The first TSH test was 8.5 a week later it was 3.5, then two weeks later it was 6.7. what are you confused about?
