Hi,
if you are already taking the med then I'd say ok to try this month.
However, do make sure you are retested in 4 weeks (if you find you are pregnant), or 6 weeks if you are not.
If you get pregnant on another cycle, you need to test just as soon as you find out you're pregnant. it is normal to immediately increase meds by 25 mcg if you find you are pregnant. Then to test and readjust again as necessary after 4 weeks, and then monthly for the rest of the pregnancy.
Once you do get pregnant they need to adjust your meds based on FT4 and FT3. Please note also that normal range for FT4 in pregnancy needs to be increased (ie. if the range if 12-22, then during pregnancy it will be 12 to 30 and better that it be at the higher end of this, as the T4 is critical for normal fetal development).
yeah, that is the medicine I have. Isn't that just a generic form of synthroid? Idk, I just found out last week. It was my FT4 that was .87. So should I even try to get pregnant this month? Is it even possible with what my levels were at? She said the others were within range, even my TSH it was just my FT4 that was a little low. Thanks.
Hi,
I would think she should be prescribing you levothyroxine in this case. Did she?
Target TSH for pregnancy is 1 - 2.0.
Target FT4 should be mid-range.
Next time please ask them to test FT3 and FT4, not T3 and T4.
If you do get pregnant you need to get your levels tested monthly. Normal levels of thyroid hormone are critical to a healthy pregnancy.
