Things I have done this week to avoid thinking about my TT on Friday

by shannon828, Apr 09, 2008 03:45PM
- Got my hair done
- Got my eyebrows waxed
- Getting a mani/pedi tomorrow
- Bought $30 shampoo (um, how this helps I am not sure?), $18 conditioner and a bottle of Bio Oil (for the scar)
- Going to the Sox/Tigers game tonight (front row tix courtesy of my wonderful boss)

Tomorrow night I plan to:
Go to yoga after work
Eat a nice dinner
Take a relaxing bath
Enjoy time with my husband
Drink Sleepy time tea
Stay asleep all night

I wish my TT was earlier in the am since I won't be able to eat after midnight and no coffee (?!?!) or breakfast before surgery :(

Yep, definitely starting to freak out.

Friendly reminder you probably already know: no nail polish.  Enjoy.

Hope that morning goes fast for you.  And that's right - absolutely nothing after midnight.  I once messed up and couldn't get a test because when they said no eating that also meant nothing to drink.

They never told me no nail polish!!!  Why the heck not?  What do my toenails have to do with my thyroid?

WAIT .. the nail polish.   My surgery was yr ago Jan.  I had them take off the gel-tip nails .. all 10 of them (boo hoo) only to find out in pre op I could have left them on!!!!!  It cost me add'l $10 to have the taken off and a year to grow my nat'l nails back from the damage of wearing the gel tips for a year .. so it was a blessing in disguise I took them off!

My favorite is (and this has gotten me through a lot of medical tests lately):  I ordered some of that wonderful music that they play in the spas (there is an entire series called "Sounds of Spa" - loaded it up on my MP3 player (Christmas gift courtesy of my teenager), pop in the headphones and tune the world out.   I completely tuned out two hours of hospital waiting rooms, prep rooms, etc. yesterday.

Works great at the office too.  Thinking of getting one for my boss - whether he likes it or not.  :-)

They told me no nail polish, as well, but they said the toes were fine. It is for the pulse-ox monitor they put on your fingers.  Measures your oxygen levels as well as your pulse rate.... but you can always call and check. Sometimes they allow clear polish.

What time is your surgery? The not eating/drinking after midnight before stinks!!  I made sure I drank a bottle of water at 11:55 p.m.

We're here for you - glad to hear you are pampering yourself. You've earned it!

I'm thinking about you.  The beginning of the end.  And I mean that in a good way.  Get it out and get it over with.  Then you can begin worrying about the RAI and the meds... Ok, forget all that.  It's over before you know it.  REALLY!  I'm glad you are pampering yourself now!  It's the perfect time and the perfect mind set to have.  If you doc feels that it's ok, take some time between TT and RAI.  It gives you time to recover and be normal for a while.

I wish you luck, all my positive thoughs, and a speedy recovery! :-))

I was told no polish on toes or fingers - so I went ahead and had a natural mani / pedi done (no polish).

I'm sure you are quite a bag of nerves right now, but you will be just fine.  Keep your expectations in perspective (dont expect to feel great after, that sort of thing) and try to enjoy your night (sounds like you've got it all planned perfectly) and please post as soon as you get home.

We are all thinking of you!

I just got off the phone with my surgeon's office and I'm now the first operation of the day @ 7:30am!!!  I am so pleased with this, although it's super early, I won't have to be starving all day and can just wake up and get this over with.  Since I'm doing Thyrogen for my scans and RAI, I will hopefully get sent home with both pain meds and some Synthroid so I can get that process started.  My appt with my Endo is on 4/25, is that when we will go over the Pathology and discuss the next steps re:  RAI, etc.?

Thanks all for your support!  I really appreciate it!

DS- how did everything go?  How are you feeling???
