Those who had Thyroidectomy..What is your replac. dosage?

I am having a thyroidectomy next week and I'm a little nervous. Mostly for the anesthesia but I know the next few months will take work because well have to figure out what dosage is best for me.

They are staring me on 100 mcg of synthroid after surgery.

So my question is....
1. What were you started on after surgery?
2. What do you take now?

I had my TT Jan 11 was placed on 100mg synthroid (the other one that starts with a L) and 1 mont later was taken off it because the surgeon and the Endo didnt communicate so now I am "Sitting on the dock of the bay" waiting to be "Nuked".  Its now 3 weeks off meds and for some reason I got an energy boost from somewhere and not sure what my TSH is since Endo didn't draw my blood when I saw him 3 weeks ago.  Am I not supposed to get tired yet?  I had days where I was but lately I feel like nothing is happening to me regarding the Hypo aspects of this.  I am the except to the rule???

Any hoot, Cheers
Scott

my TT was 12/7/06- I started out on cytomel but only for 6days ( until the path report came back clean). I was then started on 100 mcg of levothyoxine. On Feb 8th  the dose was increased to 137 mcgs of levoxyl.

My endo is not waiting a full 6 weeks for my next lab- instead waiting 4 weeks this time, I think due to brand change- not sure.

Good Luck with your surgery- you'll do fine!

I'm having my TT next Tuesday and I'll be started at either 125mg or 150mg of Synthroid, I can't remember which at the moment.  But I am a very big girl so that is probably why my dose is larger than most people's.

I had my thyroid out in August 2006.  I started at 150mcg went up to 162 mcg after a few months and currently have me at 175 mcg.  I should find out in few weeks when I have blood work done again if I need to be bumped again.

Good luck.

I was not on replacement before TT for benign nodules(July 2006), and have been on .125 levoxyl since then. Energy level fine, feel like normal.

Partial Thyroidectomy 1/9 - started out slow @ 25mcgs of Synthroid. First Bloodwork since starting Synthroid tomorrow AM.

Goal is supress to .5 - 1.0 TSH to keep any cancer cells at bay on the other side and/or keep nodule from growing, etc.  Found the cancer (small area) upon final biopsy results 48 hrs after surgery.

Good luck with surgery tomorrow ....

Thanks so much for the info, everyone. I am having a total thyroidectomy because I have antibodies for Grave's Disease and Hashimoto's. I swing from one end of the spectrum to the other. It's called Hashitoxicosis.

My doc says she does the dosage based on height and weight and Ill be started at 100 mcg Synthroid and then Ill have to have blood tests done in 4 weeks to see how it is going. :)

After my hemithyroidectomy about 3 months ago I was put on 115 mcg of synthroid, after this surgery tomorrrow (TT) I will be on cytomel(can't remember the dosage though) and then 150 mcg of synthroid after RAI treatment in April.  I am hoping my energy level will return too after all this because it is still not at normal levels.

I started out at 100 mcg of levothyroxine and 6 wks after TT it was upped to 125 mcg.  My brain fog has disappeared but my energy level is still real low.  If I exert myself too much, I feel like sleeping all day the next day.  Are you having a TT or just a lobectomy?

I had my TT exactly one week ago today...I was on 25 mcg's of synthroid since last May and now have been bumped up to 100mcg's since the surgery.  I know the doctor said it would be much easier to adjust the medicine without a thyroid trying to cause problems.  I can't tell you anything more, since I won't be having any bloodwork done to see what my levels are until about a month from now.  They said to watch for signs of being really tired though.  Hopefully, it will be an easy transition.  Good Luck on your surgery.
