Thyroid Antibody lab results

My endocrinologist recently told me I was hypothyroid, with a TSH level of 125 and a low T4. He also ran an antimicrosomal antibody test, and my result on that says >950.0. What exactly does that mean? I'm new to this diagnosis, and I'm having a hard time finding out what the antibody test means. He put me on a high does of levothyroxine, but I still feel terrible after almost three months, and I don't know why.

With Hashimoto's, your thyroid gland function is gradually destroyed, which requires increasing doses of thyroid meds to offset the loss of natural thyroid hormone production.  Based on your test results, I expect that  your dosage of Levo is inadequate.   Many of our members report that symptom relief required that Free T3 being adjusted into the upper third of the range and Free T4 adjusted to around the middle of its range.  Are you having hypo symptoms?

Also, have you been tested for Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin?  Many hypo patients are too low in the ranges for those areas as well.

An atimicrosomal antibody test is also called a TPOab test.
Your TPOab is above 950, and it should be below 30.

The test indicates that you have an autoimmune condition.

Your TSH was 125, and should be around 1.3
Your TSH was high because your T4 is low.
Your T4 was low because your thyroid is not producing enough hormones.

You have Hashimoto's, which is autoimmune thyroid disease.
Your antibody count is fairly high. If you take a multi-vitamin, you might check to see if it has selenium in there. 200mcg of selenium a day may help some with the antibodies.

Your TSH was really high, and is probably still dropping. You should be getting bloodwork done every six weeks to see where your levels are. You need to get it down to 1.0 or 2.0, but you don't want it to fall below 0.5, or you'll go Hyper.

You won't feel better for at least another month. You have to get your TSH where it needs to be, and you may not be on the right dose yet. After you get your meds right, then it can take a few months for all the symptoms to improve, although some of the symptoms resolve quickly.

Hope that helps a little.
