Thyroid Challenge Problem

by nolagirl20, May 06, 2009 09:32PM
I was diagnosed hypothyroid last year in Sept. My md put me on 50 mcg on Synthroid and 1 month later I got my first yeast infection. I also take Mircette birth control. Prior to all of this, I only had 1 yeast infection in my lifetime in 6-98. I tend to get a yeast infection the week before my period. I KNOW that the PI for synthroid does not indicate yeast infections as being a side effect, but something has happened. I have been dealing with this problem for 7 months. I also became anemic after starting Synthroid. I am so frustrated with this issue that I stopped taking my synthroid 2 weeks ago. I am not sure what has changed. I went to see an endocrinologist and she ran all kinds of tests that came back neg for autoimmune disorders. She also said I didn't have any thyroid antibodies in my blood and didn't understand why I was on thyroid meds. My levels were increasing which was the reason my IM put me on Synthroid. My GYN ran all kinds of tests and they all came back plain yeast. I am going back to my IM doc tomorrow and am going to try and figure out what has gone on. I just thought I would post b/c I am desperate at this point.

What were your exact lab numbers and ranges from your testing when you were put on synthroid, and your most recent ones?? Need to see these in order to answer you properly and give my opinions.
Try to hang in there....it is always frustruating to be sick and not understand why.
Are you taking probiotics to counteract the yeast??
There are many many reasons for your body to develop yeast problems, from change in diet, antibiotics, tampon useage, underwear material, sitting in a bathing suit for too long, and so many other reasons.....including that your body chemistry has changed which could be hormonal. Did you know that birth control pills can induce yeast infections? I dont think it is from thyroid meds.....it has to be from the one of many other things.
