Thyroid Cyst

by SSJD, Mar 21, 2008 08:27AM
The cyst is on the right side and feels like someone is pressing on my throat.  The doctor has suggested surgery to remove the right side of the thyroid.  I have a very hard time taking medicine and I'm afraid in the long run I may have to take thryoid medicine.  How dangerous is this surgery and what are the chances I will have to take medication in the future?  and what qualifications should I ask for in the doctor who will do the surgery? I would say the cyst is an 1/2 inch across and 1  inches long.
Thank you
SSJD

The alternative treatment is the aspiration of the cyst and ethanol injection. This procedure is performed in Santa Monica thyroid clinic
