Thyroid Cysts

I am 26 yrs old with no family history of any thyroid disorder. I felt of a neck swellness( just a little) and so went to the Dr for a check up of which he directed me to go for an ulrasoung(US of the thyroid gland). The Ultrasound report results is the following:
thyroid gland is mildly enlarged. the right love measures5 cm longitudinaly and 2.1 cm in the AP direction. The isthmus is 3 mm in the AP direction.
eft Loe is 4.2 cm longitudinally and 1.8cm n the AP direction.

the echotexture of the left lobe of the isthmus is homogeneoous. no nodules in the left lobe.

there are two enlarged degenrated a small cysts in the lower part of the right lobe measuring: 0.79 cm and 0.5 cm in diameter. there is a mildly hypoechoic 1.3 x 1.0 x 1.1 cm lesion in the posterior caudal part of the right thyroid lobe. the lesion is vascular , there are no calcifications. the mildly hypoehoic lesion is intermediate finding and fine needle biopsy is recommended.

wat does the 1.2cm intermediate lesion in the right thyroid lobe means? what does the whole thing means? cud it be cancer? please advice.. am totally lost and freeked out!!

Duh- I mean hope the FNA is soon. Sorry!

hypoechoic (less echogenic than the surrounding tissue). This is the definition I found in Wikipedia.

Here is a link to Thyroid Manager on nodules and ultrasound.

Hope this helps.

When is the FNA?

Most thyroid nodules are NOT cancer.Thyroid cancer is highly curable.
I have nodules just under 1 cm, and the endos will biopsy them if they are >1 cm. That is probabably why you will have FNA (biopsy).
Hypochoeic lesions are common. That's what mine are. My doctors say it is common in Hashimoto's.

Don't freak out! Hopefully, you have the ultrasound scheduled soon so you can get an answer and stop worrying so much.
