Thyroid Replacement Hormone

by SPencak, Feb 22, 2008 04:18PM
Just curious....if you have your thyroid surgically removed, do you just have to take 1 pill of replacement hormone a day...or can it be more?

It depends on what replacement medication you are taking.  Most people do well on synthroid (or the generic version) or some other form of T4, and that is usually given in once dose per day - often recommended to be taken first thing in the morning, an hour or so before eating.

I believe some people take T3 replacement (Armour is the brand name I hear on this forum), that often seems to be taken in 2 doses per day.
