I do get acid reflux(heartburn) randomly and never have certain foods to correlate it with. That is part of the reason why I'm going to see gastroenterologist as well as to see if I have a food intolerance. I will mention it to Dr when I go. Thank you for information.
Well, even if your current Dr isn't the one who tried to dx fibro, if she didn't argue with it, she isn't going to help you much - especially if she thinks your symptoms are related to aging or poor diet.
Telling you to eat more iodine rich foods shows how little she does know about thyroid, since iodine is contraindicated with Hashimoto's, as it can make the autoimmune response even worse.
You can talk to the gastroenterologist and see if you might find an ally there. When I was first dx'd hypo, my pcp was very unsympathetic, refusing proper testing and adequate treatment; I found my ally in an ENT I was sent to for, supposedly, unrelated issues. It was the ENT (I'd seen previously) who took one look at me and realized what condition I was in. He ordered some more tests and those came back, he dx'd Hashimoto's and referred me on to my endo, all of which my pcp had refused to do so.
Do you have acid reflux (GERD) or anything like that? If so, that's a pretty standard hypo symptom, as well, that you can certainly bring up to the gastro.
I had severe insulin resistance myself which caused a lot of health problems and I couldn't lose weight until my insulin went down. There are various types of magnesium and some are better than others. Magnesium oxide lists 4% absorption. O_o
Wasn't current Dr who tried to dx with fibro but she didn't argue it either and basically told me that people blame thyroid for too many things that are related to just getting older and basically poor diet etc. Also told me to eat more iodine containing foods if I felt it might be my thyroid. Tried to explain to her that these symptoms are long standing and being to interfere with my life but she was unimpressed. Probably could push her for a referral based on the one antibody test but she might stand her ground. She did give me a referral for a gastroenterologist based on a lowish Quantitative Ig A so maybe.
Interesting as I do have to supplement with 400mg of Mag a day. I am insulin resistant at the current time. I notice if I go without within a couple of day but it is mostly an increase in the muscle aches. I did go off of the Topmaxx for 2 months and was supplementing daily with Mag and by the end of the 2 months had to go back on Topamaxx as the Migraines had started to return to the level of every couple of days.
I also supplement Calcium and Vit. D as well and will notice a difference if I miss too many days without.
If your doctor didn't want to order these obsolete tests, even with the symptoms you have (all hypo symptoms), but was ready to pop you with a fibromyalgia dx, it's definitely time to find another doctor.
Some doctors believe that fibromyalgia is un or under treated hypothyroidism and many find that once adequate thyroid hormones are prescribed, symptoms are alleviated.
I had migranes from magnesium deficiency.
"Magnesium deficits and increased urinary magnesium excretion can occur in people with insulin resistance and/or type 2 diabetes [24,25]. The magnesium loss appears to be secondary to higher concentrations of glucose in the kidney that increase urine output [2]."
Also forgot to mention, weight gain. Not horrible to lose it but have to maintain 1500ish calorie diet or will gain and do not lose fast. I do not work out but fairly active.
Thanks.
Just generally feeling like sick all the time without actually being sick, Fatigue, profound muscle aches(to the point where one Dr has already tried to DX me as Fibromyalgia), dry skin/hair, periods are slightly heavier for me but could be age related and they have never been that regular. Cold all the time.
When I was 26. had a episode of hyperthyroid that had the Dr wanting to do radioactive iodine but I was uninsured and didn't have it done. Few months later, everything settled down but was told to watch thyroid as it is rarely a one time thing.
I also have PCOS and take Metformin for that as well a topmaxx for migraines. I know Metformin might change the TSH but usually lows it and not sure if Topmaxx will interfer.
I know my Dr will not order anymore tests as she didn't want to order these and only did so on the information I gave her on Metformin's effect on TSH in Diabetics. May be time to find another Dr or just wait and see.
That said, your T4 is toward the lower end of the range, but not horrible and your TSH isn't real bad either, so you might have a hard time getting a doctor to treat you.
The high TgAb indicates Hashimoto's, so might prompt treatment, depending on symptoms.
Exactly what symptoms do you have?
