Thyroid Scan

I have already told you all I have a nodule in the right side of my throat.  It is very small. It was found when I was having an ultrasound for something else.  Now my gyno wants to do a thyroid scan and my ent says there is no need to do one.  Just to keep my tsh levels checked and in 6 months maybe have another ultrasound done.  He said most doctors these days do not order thyroid scans on people with hypothyroid.  My real question I guess is does a thyroid scan stop your thyroid from working completely.  I really do not want to take radioactive pills or liquid.  That seems worse than the nodule.  The nodule does not bother me at all and you cannot see it on my neck.  My ent says it may go away when I get my meds on the right dosage.

When your doctor orders a scan/uptake, the amount of rai is less than having a x-ray.  Its when you have RAI I131 treatment is when the doctor is "killing off" the thyroid. Not during the scan/uptake.

The scan/uptake will let them know if the nodules are hot, cold or warm.
