Why did they tell you to the 10%? If you are going to be on medicine anyway and it is possibly cancerous why leave it? I would like to know because my dr. is telling me to take the whole thing out.

WELL?? I just had 90% of mine out they took what looked bad. I had 2 Nodules. Pathology not back yet, Good thing is he left 10% in so If I am NEG for cancer I do not have to have neither a surgery or a pill if ok.. If cancer then the RAI and moniotor morso while he is operating have him do a frozen section as well as look at everything while you are under. ~~ GOOD luck! I am 6 Days Post op~

Hi allyalvin, i have had a total thyroidectomy,{1st surgery NOV 07, 2nd surgery JAN 08} then you will probably have radiation therapy after 3 months. After surgery you will feel a bit sore and you will try not to move your head very quick.{you will move like a robot, moving your whole body with your head} i stayed in bed for the first day then i got up and walked around, i was a bit wobbly on my first walk but the nurse was there to help,i was in hospital for 4 days and if you have any pain ask for the pain killers {they really help for the first few days} give yourself up to 2 weeks to recouperate and just take it really easy, everything will be ok, take care of yourself

Well you are not alone. I go in on the 12th of May to discuss total removal and set up the appiontment for the surgery. I have a large goiter on my left side that has 'abnormal' cells and several nodules on my right side. My dr. said this is probably why I have had 4 miscarriages. Now I might be able to get pregnant.

Since I found this out I taked to two woman who have had the surgey. They both said the surgery is tough but they both feel so much better than they used to. So there you go. Good luck to you. Let's both be glad they found this and we have a chance. ;) I will send all my good thoughts your way on the 13th!

My biopsy showed to be suspicious pre cancer. ( This is what the doctor told me).  One little thing that worries me, is  I have a sore throat and my chest feels congested. Will this cause the surgery to be postponed?   I just want to get this over with... You have all been awesome!!!! Thanks   Terri

hi i had a total thyroidectomy aug 06 i woke from my surgery feeling great (could have been the anasthetic?) i had no pain killers just found i couldnt get myself up for about a day its funny when your trying not to move your head you cant sit yourself up.  once at home i just felt like i was walking around like a robot because your trying not to turn your head.(my scar is about 4 inches and i had 21 staples)  the worse thing i found was a day later when they pulled out the drainage tubes.  i already had hypo so was already on medication so no change there.
once you've had surgery im sure your blood levels will be carefully monitored.
good luck with surgery and let us know how you get on

Hello .. I had a partial January 07 .. the orig. two nodules were benign and 48hrs later they found in final path two small papillary microcarinomas .. so I am on synthroid for cancer supression of TSH on the other side of the gland as I've chosen (for my case) not to have the other side out as of this writing .... however, I found out after my surgery that 20% of the time the OTHER side does not function again and a person may end up on meds lifelong .... I agreed for a TT if anything was suspicious while on the table and mine was afterwards.

Took a good 1.5-2 weeks to feel pretty good.  Minimal pain meds .. otc Tylenol was fine at home .. not like orthopedic surgery with sharp pain .. more sore type of pain in muscles hurting the worst and throat from the breathing tube hurts worse than the surgery itself!

I'm sure more of stories to share .... May 13th will be here soon.

What did your biopsy say .. did you have an FNA?
