Will look forward to seeing your wife's actual levels, and ranges. That will help members better assess the testing/treatment.
Also please indicate if your wife is currently on a thyroid replacement medication, if so, what med(s)/dosage(s)? For how long?
Most important, what are her symptoms?
My name is Michael Lees and the problem is with my wife aged 46.
Thank you very much for the explanation, Barb.
I will get all the reports and put the blood test value's found along with the reference values that the lab has used, today or tomorrow. Hope to get some more information on those from you. Thank you again.
TPOab is antibodies that attack the thyroid. Quite often we see levels in the thousands, so while yours is elevated, it's not horribly high.
Anti-Thyroglobulin (TGab) is another antibody that attacks the thyroid; again, we often see levels in the thousands.
Your elevated levels indicate that you have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which is an autoimmune disease in which the body sees the thyroid as foreign, and produces antibodies to destroy it. There is no cure for Hashimoto's; the treatment is replacement hormones to treat the hypothyroidism that results.
Have you had TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 tested? Those are the tests that will help determine whether or not your thyroid is still functioning.
What, if any symptoms do you have?
