Thyroid concerns

Okay, after having my daughter 2 years ago, my health seems to be getting worse. Instead of losing weight, I keep gaining, always fatigued, low sex drive, depression, acne, dry skin, hair loss, bad short term memory, temperature sensitive, heavy periods.

I finally saw my doctor and was mainly brushed off, depression I was told to go to church, he gave me birth control for heavy periods and acne cream

Yes, you should push for the FREE T4 and FREE T3 tests; don't just ask for T4 and T3 or you'll get Total T4 and Total T3, which are not the same tests and are considered outdated.

TSH is a pituitary hormone and is an indicator of actual thyroid hormone status, at best.  While most doctors do, it should never be used as the sole indicator of a thyroid condition.

You should also ask for thyroid antibodies to rule out Hashimoto's, which is an autoimmune thyroid condition that destroys thyroid function.  The tests you need are Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPOab) and Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TgAb).

If your doctor refuses to order these tests, you shouldn't hesitate to find another doctor.

My tsh levels was 3. So "normal". Should I ask for a T3 and T4 tests? Or is it pointless?

Should I see about getting the T3 and T4 tests or does it really matter at this point?
