The thyroid is becoming less hyper since the Tapazole. Immediately following the radiation thyroiditis, the FT3 was 10, FT4 was 2.31, and TSH was .07. I went into atrial fib, lost 5 pounds in 3 days, etc.
When the thyroid is becoming more hypo after RAI, is it normal to have the TSH lag so far behind? Shouldn't it be reading higher as it correlates to the FT3 and FT4? Or does it take a while to catch up? It's all very confusing. I know it's becoming more hypo because I am now gaining 1 pound a day and have decreased bowel movements.
My endo is out of town, so I can't ask him these questions, and you all know as much as he does! We have been decreasing my Tapazole as the lab numbers have been changing, but without him, I don't know if maybe I should decrease the Tapazole a little bit more. I don't want that hypohe// ever again. I started on 30 mg of Tapazole after the RAI thyroiditis, then decreased to 20 mg., now I'm on 10 mg. per day. Maybe I should go to 5 mg a day like I was on pre-RAI, or maybe not take any at all. I don't think I'll hear from him until next week, and I don't want to let it go too far down the wrong road. It's a guessing game.
