Thyroid help

I had my thyroid tested twice and have been told it is border line normal. What does this mean, my doc does not seem concerned? I have a family history of thyroid problems in my family. My mom, several aunts and a grandfather. Shouldn't I be concerned!! I have several signs of thyroid problems. depression, weight gain, tired all the time, can't sleep, dry skin, lack of sex drive, bad pms. I'm just a mess. How can I convince my docter to do more tests and what knid on test should I request? I also have inflammation in both of my eye. My eye doctors said that a bad thyroid could be the underlining problem. Please help before I'm 300lbs!!!

Nobody believed I my issues were thyroid related bcz my #'s were normal .. not until my symptoms increased after my surgery when the thyroid wasn't functioning properly and I complained of an increase in hypo symptoms (w/o knowing test results) did they FINALLY believe I was subclinical for about 2 yrs before taking my symptoms seriously!!!!

Now I am on Synthroid and my TSH is lower than ever in my life and so are my symptoms improving ... ahhh ... proved them wrong ... all of them .. but now the {{{{ listen }}}}} as I 've gained respect.

Maybe seek an Endocronologist .. a good one who will LISTEN to you .. that is 1/2 the game .... they need to take the time to listen and be flexible and not always judge a book by the #'s of the bloodwork as sometimes we can get thyroid issues and still be "normal".

Cheryl (partial thyroidectomy 1/7 ThyCa (2 small areas) and now on Synthroid for supression and symptoms improved)

I get confused .. when the TSH # goes lower does that mean they actually rise?  Normal, btw can go to 5.0 @ the lab but I am an example of symptoms within normal range I guess.

example:

MY TSH LEVELS:

2.4   before surgery 12/06
3.9   few weeks post-op on Synthroid
2.9   few more weeks post-op on synthroid
1.8       total of 14 wks post op on synthroid

does that mean they have dropped or risen .. I get so confused .. seems all is so opposite in the thryoid languages LOL?!

cheryl...the lower the tsh the more function the thyroid has or the more synthroid type help it has (thyroid hormone). TSH is thyroid Stimulating Hormone....tells the thyroid gland that it needs to produce more thyroid hormone...so the more thyroid hormone you have circulating in the blood...the less tsh will be produced....
