Thyroid issues and IVF

OK strange question but got to ask:
Had my partial on December 18th and feel really good (all things considered).  Recently engaged and my fiance is 15 years younger.  I have three children - 19, 16 and 15.  Had my tubes tied after last baby.  Now I want to have baby with my love.  Went to OBGYN and he is recommending IVF escially because I have had thyroid roblems and reversal of tubal is huge surgery.  Has anyone been through the IVF process after thyroid issues?  Wondering if I will aggreviate my existing thyroid if I go through with the process.  Don't want to start something that could put me in nore jeopardy.
Just need to get some feedback and advise.  Would appreciated any info anyone has for me.  Also if anyone has done the process, is it as emotionally draining as I think it is?  I know I rode the emotional rollercoaster waiting for thyroid pathology results so I want to prepare for the next "bump".
Hope everyone is doing well in 2007 and hope I can get some feedback soon.  Thanks

I don't know if people are still following this thread.   I want to put my experience here and will probably do so in the next day or so.  I am somewhat reluctant, but it is only my experience.  Everyone has to make his/her own decision.

I just had a growth as well. My levels always were in normal range. I am so lucky to only have to endour a partial and not be reliant on medication.  I am concerned that my levels might be altered during a pregnancy though. My GYN said that at 41 he doesn't advise tubal reversal - increased risk of miscarriage and he stated 10- 30% sucess rate.  IVF seems to be the best option.  I ovulate normally and still have very regular periods.  I have had two multiple pregnancies (naturally) so the possibility of a multiple birth is not foreign to me.  We can "control" the situation by deciding how many to implant.  Just uncertain about the effect on my thyroid.  Dan and I wanted to wait to be sure that the thyroid wasn't cancerous.  Actually Dan has some reservations still about IVF - he'd rather do it the old fashion way.  But he is willing to explore this option for me.  I am afraid that it can put a strain on our relationship.  My insurance only covers $20,000.00 so we probably only have one shot at this.  Good luck on your surgery as well as your new adventure into the fertility haze.

I too am having to wait on the thyroid issue to find out wether it is cancer or benign before we proceed with the fertility issue. You said your insurance covers it? we have cigna and they said they don't cover the procedure, so thats great for you!. When are you having your surgery again?I am trying for Jan 18, I am 38 with my kids 21,19,8  am very regular but my fertility doc gave me much higher success rates with the tubal? how funny how everyone has different answers that is so frustrating at times. Thank you for your response, keep posted how everything goes for you. I have not heard back from my doc about the thryoid and pregnancy thing when I hear I  will let you know. Good luck and keep in touch.

Hello,

I read your post I am having a partial thyroidectomy soon and I to had my tubes tied 8 years ago after my last baby I now remarried last year and we would like to have another one, though I dont have thryoid problems other than the growth I to am concerned about being able to get pregnant after this. My doctor prior to all this said tube reversal is 70% effective, and IVF is 80% but is so very expenses. I have emailed my fertility doc to see what he says, why did you have your thryoid out? I will let you know what my doc says when I here back! maybe it will help you too. Good Luck
