I had some blood tests that came in with my TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh almost nonexistent and T3 and T4T4 test on the higher end which from what I can tell points to hyperthyroidism.
I had originally gone into the doctor for menstrual issues and this came out of it. All of my other tests came in good which was a relief but the doctor ordered an ultrasound where they found a 1cm isodense thyroid nodule which my doctor said was nothing to lose sleep over but wanted to refer me to an endocronologist because my mom had thyroid cancer (and I'm absolutely paranoidParanoid personality disorder Paranoid schizophrenia Schizophrenia - paranoid type of cancer!)
So, of course, I've gone on line and done all sorts of research and the newest thing that's been bothering me is that it feels like something is in my throatCancer - throat or larynx Throat swab culture - just a littleLittle noses decongestant Little tummys annoyance and it comes a goes. I read that is a sign it can be malignant. My appointment isn't for another couple months even though I'm on a cancellation list so hopefully it will be sooner because I wonder if I'm not just freaking myself out by reading too much. I think my thyroid was also slightly enlarged on one side - do you think this could be part of the problem? Have any of you had that weird feeling in the back of your throat??
I know I really need to not think about it so much but was looking for any of your input - can you help with ideas?
No, I haven't had an iodine scan yet, my appt. with the endocrinologist isn't until the beginning of August. My biggest concern right now (of course it seems to change all the time!) is the feeling that something is in my throat. I read that is a sign that a nodule is more cancerous - I think! I've read too much, I think, and am getting myself more confused and concerned!
Have you heard anything about the feeling that something is in your throat has something to do with a nodule or maybe an enlarged thyroid?
Sally,
Any nodule can cause the symptoms you are describing, it absolutely no connection between this and the cancer. Some nodules (due to their location), can be huge and cause the symptoms, and some smaller nodules can press on the nerves causing discomfort.
The 1 cm nodule in most cases is asymptomatic, so if you suspect it growing, you may perform the “thyroid neck check”. If nodule in fact increased in size and located close to the front of the neck, it can be seen.
