Thyroid nodules

About 10 years ago I had a thyroid scan and 5 nodules were discovered then, measuring 1 to 5mm.  I just had another scan last week and the nodules measured 5 to 11 mm.  My blood work and nuclear uptake values were fine.  My question is, is size alone an indication of a problem.  I feel as if I can feel something in my throat on the side of the 11mm nodule, but my doctor is very unconcerned.

I had a nodule about 3cm, and no biopsy was taken.

My endocrinologist said that when my nodule gets over 1cm (10mm), she  would order a fine needle biopsy. I would be concerned if I had symptoms like something in my throat. Maybe you need to get a second opinion. Most nodules are benign but personally I would want to know for sure.

If you do not feel comfortable with your current doctor's response to your concerns, you shall seek a second opinion. Your nodules are obviously growing and that is cause for concern. I also had nodules which were much bigger than yours and my labs were fine but the uptake scan was not. Do not settle for less than what you are feeling. If you feel something bothersome in your neck, ask someone else for advice.

Your nodules are quite small; many/most of us with Hashimoto's have thyroid nodules and unless they have unusual characteristics or grow extremely fast, they are usually not a concern.

Do you have symptoms of a thyroid condition?  Have you had antibody tests to confirm/rule out an autoimmune thyroid disease, which can be present even with so called "normal" values?

Just because your thyroid levels are in the "normal" range, doesn't mean they are "fine", though that's what most doctors think.

If you could post your current levels (should have at least TSH, FT3, FT4), along with the reference ranges (which vary from lab to lab, so must come from your own report), members can better assess your situation and make suggestions regarding possible treatment.
