Please have a look at the message I posted for Bailadiva, under the thread for ericajb, on this same page. I think the info might give you some further encouragement.
This is the best news I have heard in years! I had a total thyroidectomy in 06 due to goiter desease and large amounts of nodules. And with a non diagnostic biobsy they removed it. Years later I find there are many different things I could have done. I have been battling depression and weight gain for years. I am in excellent health otherwise a fitness instructor and soon to be yoga teacher. This would be the most wonderful thing in the world if it is truly possible!!!
How strange though, i have not had mine out yet but probably will down the track, i was told some of the gland has to be left i think to do with the Parathyroid( calcium) think thats right..Wow to grow a complete gland back is weird..Were you told why this happened?
I had a total thyroidectemy in 1969 and my surgeon, Dr. John E. Hildebrand said he 'left bits and pieces." (I had Graves disease/ a large goiter) A Nuclear Scan two days ago showed a fully developed normal looking thyroid that is functioning! This is a big surprise.
Any comments?
If you did not have RAI treatment after surgery, it can regrow to a small extent. New tissue can grow that will function. A whole new gland will not develop.
An ultrasound would show any significant growth.
Dosage changes can occur for a variety of reasons.
