Thyroid surgery - Left lobes got to go

I am nervous for my surgery on Wednesday, next week.  Partial thyroidectomy.  Should I be nervous?  Does anyone want to comfort me with "don't worry" words?

I had a partial thyroidectomy 2.5 yrs ago and doing fine.  I am one of the 20% whose other side does not work properly after the surgery and ended up on meds but doing fine.  Actually, I feel better choosing my TSH level that I feel great on vs. my own hormone .... I'm lucky I guess there.

I just had a lobectomy Tuesday, went home wednesday, and today, Friday I feel great, no real pain, although I do feel tired.  The only bad thing was I was nauseous, then when I started feeling better, they switched me from morphine drip to percoset, then I started throwing up again!  So good luck, you will do fine.

You're going to be fine. I had a total thyroidectomy (TT) done on the 14th and I am healing nicely. The only pain I had was sore muscles all over my body from the hospital bed! :) I stayed overnight at the hospital, but went home the next evening and have been noticably improving every day since. Don't be nervous. It's really not as bad as it sounds. :) Good luck!

I just had a total thyroidectomy on monday the 20th.  I was homethe next day.  Very small incision and am healing nicely.  I am still a little tired, but am not going back to work until Sunday.  I was on 100 mcg before surgery and on 125 mcg now.  Good luck, hope all goes easy for you.

littles, I was on 88 mcg of levolthyroixe a day before surgery and I am up to about 112 mcg and possibly may still need to keep increasing but not sure as of yet. The main thing is to have a good surgeon that has had experience with TT.

You will be just fine. I had my TT back in 1993 and no problems. Your thyroid levels will be monitored and if medication is necessary your doctor will work with you (hopefully) in getting your levels to where they need to be. Patience will play a BIG part in finding the correct dosage for you.

I had a neck dissection back in Sept 08 to removed certain things in the neck (submandibular gland, lymph nodes) and I survived that one as well, no problems whatsoever. In Feb 09, I had a laparotomy to remove abdominal/pelvis tumor, left ovary & complex cyst. I came out of that surgery just fine (did have to spend 3 days in hospital, BUT only because it was a major surgery).

You will do just fine. And who knows maybe it will be done as an out patient surgery.

Good luck and best wished..

Did it mess up your thyroid hormones?  Or were they already messed up?

I had a Partial TT about 7 months ago and it wasn't near as bad as I thought it would be. They even sent me home the same day outpatient". Still trying to get my levels in check but I'm doing much better lately. I really didn't think the surgery was all that bad.  Good Luck!
