Has anyone had a thyroidectomy more than 2 years ago and not have any problems with weight gain?
I had my TT almost 2 years ago and I did gain about 3kgs (6lbs), then about 4 months ago I started to loose weight and lost 4kg. I didn't eat less or change anything. And 2 wks ago I started to gain the weight back and gained the whole 4kg back in just 2 weeks! I'm so scared I'm going to keep gaining weight. My medication hasn't changed, I'm on 125mcg Oroxine (thryroxine). This is starting to depress me a lot.
Also, what supplements should I be taking? I have seen SeleniumSelenium - antioxidant Selenium sulfide Selenium sulfide topical and B12 mentioned in this forum but does it help even when you don't have a thyroid?
I can't help with your questions but I can sympathize. I had a total thyroidectomy in February and have gained 16 pounds since then!! My weight had been stableStable angina Unstable angina for several years but now I can't fit into any of my pre-surgery clothes. I find it terribly depressing. Right now my MD is still trying to figure out the right dose of Synthroid (my last TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh was 18.9 so it is waaaaaay off.) I'm hoping that when he figures out the correctCorrect (new formula) dose that the weight will come off as well. Perhaps you need to have your TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh levels rechecked and your medication adjusted?
