Thyroidectomy experiences? I very well may be facing this.

How do you feel? Weight problems? Recovery time? I will know for sure on dec.4. Multigrandular goiters, growing since 1 month. I have felt a difference in swallowing at times. Anything you can share.

I had my thyroidectomy many years ago (23 years on Dec. 12th) but for me it was pretty much a breeze.  I went into the hospital Tuesday morning and was out by Thursday afternoon.  I only had to stay that long because they did a pretty extensive central compartment dissection and also ended up having to remove 2 parathyroid glands due to the tumor being stuck to them.  My calcium crashed a bit the first night after surgery, but bounced right back after meds the next morning and I haven't had any trouble with it since.

I was back to work the Monday after surgery, but in restrospect, that might have been pushing it a bit.  I didn't have any swelling or other problems and really did quite well.

There are some folks on this forum who had a similar experience to mine and some who have had a lot of trouble.  Your mileage may vary.

My recent neck dissection was a different story.  It wore me out a lot more and I was off work an additional week.  I had all kinds of swelling!  I don't know why it was more difficult this time other than maybe because I was 20 when I had the TT and 43 this time?

Good luck to you!
