I have a multinodular goiterChronic thyroiditis (hashimoto’s disease) Goiter Graves disease Toxic nodular goiter. On ultrasound I have two suspicious nodules one on each side. The left nodule FNA came back atypicalAtypical pneumonia which looked the least suspicious on ultrasound. The right and most suspicious on ultrasound showed microcalcifications FNA came back sparse speciman. I'm going in this morning for another ultrasound for the right nodule. Dr. wants to do a total thyroid removal. Does that seem right? I'm concerned. I am scheduled for surgery next Friday. Help!
Bumping this up so it doesn't get buried. I don't know enough to give you an answer but there are many knowledgable people here that can give you some insight!
I had another ultrasound today and took my daughter who is a nurse. The left atypicalAtypical pneumonia nodule has gotten bigger and on the right side another good size nodule was discovered of considerable size. All my nodules are complex and US detected more new nodules forming. I am 61 and doctor wants to do a thyroidectomy she feels that even if they turn out benignBenign ear cyst or tumor Benign positional vertigo my thyroid is diseased and I will have to keep getting US's and biopsies. They can also turn into cancer. The surgery would be harder as I age.
if nodule redily accessible[located on the front of the neck], core biopsy can be considered
