TsH Level is really low?

Good Afternoon,

My Tsh level was extremely low. 0.009tsh He did not say what the t4 level was. I was taking synthroid med .02,  He bumped My med level to 0.150, as of today I have lost 12 more pounds. I am bioplar I am on topamax Have been taking it since January. I take My meds faithful.  A year in a half ago I developed TED, Thyroid Eye disease which is not from Graves I was checked for that from My first Endro when I was younger, But the doctor I have now Has not even said anything about My eye. I did reasearch about Thyroid. Ive been taking snthyroid since I was 10 years old and now 37, so I know what sights are well adviced. I just need help, As well My gland is swollen, My mother noticed it. I will be getting My blood work done saturday.

Thank You
A very concerned

My Blood results were awesome! well much better then that was the level before ( Tsh .009 ) now its T4 level was 2.0 and T3 was 1.50, My doctor was really pleased with my results. Though I have to wait to see Him on My eye they have to refer Me to a doctor goodness. We will be moving back home soon as well. Least He is pleased with My results on one part. Still not quiet sure why He did not run the other but maybe he knew what he was doing "MAYBE".

Thanks I read about that I had have that of  kind of eye doctor, Im still waiting on the My results. Ive never had a RAI pill. I have read that graves and hyper/hypo has a big part of that graves all that is in the lines of Thryoid.  Being diagnosed since age of 9, and going on now age of 37.  It seems you can find your own stuff out sometimes with out a doctor whos been to school and in pratice with seeing patients.  Kinda Sad!!!

Yes with TED you need a neuro opthamologist.

I have it and that is who I see. I had for over 19yrs and it was not until about 4yrs ago a doctor noticed it...But my eyes slightly bulge due to graves/hyper or the RAI pill, not sure which caused it...

Im like oh for peak sakes.  Is kinda sad when You can find most stuff up on line, I was going to be and Endro, But With My health I could not go through with it But I new what to look for even before we went on I saw the vitamin part said its not checked Ive been on Iron why is it not checked but yet The Free levels are checked, this time. I do know when I see Him, We going to have a nice chat and longer then 5 minutes to. Is My health we dealing with and not His. I really thank You for taking the time.

My mistake: 0.150 mg is 150 mcg....... sorry about that.

So your doctor is jockeying your medication, based only on a TSH result; it's not wonder you can't things leveled out.  TSH fluctuates greatly, even intraday, so is not a reliable indicator of actual thyroid hormones.   You need the Free T3 and Free T4 tests - not the same as just T3 and T4, which are actually for total T3 and total T4.  The tests for totals are obsolete and of little value, because some of the T3 and T4 will be bound by protein and unusable.  You need the frees, in order to see how much is actually free for conversion and/use by the individual cells.

Vitamin D deficiency can mimic hypothyroidism, so you will have to work to get your levels up, then you'll know whether your issues are thyroid or not.  You might also ask to get tested for Vitamin B12 and iron.  Deficiency of both can cause the tiredness/fatigue.

You should see an ophthalmologist about your eye issue.  Most regular doctors can't treat that.

My medication bottle had 0.2mg the new one is 0.150mg, I had the blood test done saturday. which was told he will have this week. I have always been Hypo, but once in a bit would flip to Hyper. Leave it to Me to do that, My grandfather was hyper, My cousin is Hypo. 27 Long years of this. Just wants it somewhat normal or decent range. Ive just been tired. I wish some doctors would understand this is peoples lives they are messing with. I dont know why He only did the TSH level but this time the levels were all checked.  He also has Me on a vitamn D pill which I suggested. Because that was low. a while back.  Though that was not checked this time. So yes Im very concerned I know what to watch for I just dont know why some doctors dont. He never even noticed My eye. Just because I have worn glasses since childhood.  Not once checked. Is just makes Me even upset. Thank You for helping.

Does your medication bottle say what the units are?  It should either be in mg or mcg.  0.2 mg would = 200 mcg; 0.150 mg would = 1500 mcg which is basically unheard of in thyroid replacement.

smiles,

My tsh was TSH of 0.009  the med he had me on was the .2 I looked at the bottle of the new med it read 0.150 on the bottle. I had called back to see what the T4 level was He did not run a t4 level. I was like why not Ive was diagnosed with thyroid issues when I was nine years old I will be 37 in october, It has been a none going issue for 27 years.  I know My levels have to be checked. I did go today to have blood work. Done and Tsh and T4 were both checked . I have lost 75 pounds since Jan of this year as of today.  I was never big till the Bioplar medications, but once put on topamax I did start loosing weight. and Thyroid was off track as usual. I will know what my results are with in the week.  Thank You for commenting so soon..

TSH of 0.009 is very low and indicates that you might be hyper, however, TSH is a pituitary hormone and should not be used, alone, as an indicator of actual thyroid status.

First of all, please clarify your med dosage.  It looks like you went from 20 mcg to 150 mcg; is that correct?  That's a huge jump.

We'd need to know what your Free T3 and Free T4 levels are, in order to be of much help, because, for many of us, once we get on thyroid medication, TSH is useless. You said you had a T4 test.  Do you know if that was Free T4 or Total T4?  Total T4 is considered obsolete, and of little value, but it's better than nothing.  If you can get that from your doctor, it would be helpful.  Also be sure to get the reference ranges, which has to come from your own report.

You should see an ophthalmologist regarding the eye issue to see if there is something that can be done to correct it, before it gets much worse.

When you get your blood test results, please post them, here for us to better assess your situation.
