Hi everyone...I would love some input from others. Long story (sort of) short; I was diagnosed with GravesGraves disease in '05, put on methimazole, was waaay too high a dose (took a while to see an endo b/c we moved to another state) went in to see my GP, TSHPituitary and tsh Tsh was in the 60's (I was feeling HORRIBLE), finally saw an endo who agreed with the original GravesGraves disease' diagnosis, and lowered my dose. Have been relatively stableStable angina Unstable angina since then, with some fluctuations and med adjustmentsAdjustment disorder.
Fast forward to April '08. Began seeing an RE in prep for trying to have a baby. They listened to my story, told me they didn't think I had Graves but instead had Hashi's. Tests supposedly confirmed this. Took me off my meds and sort of left me there...I was slowly dropping back to hyper (this entire ordeal, I have had symptoms all over the place) while trying for a baby, but nothing major. No pregnancy (not trying for too long) decided to stop and get stuff straightened out.
Had RAI in November (after much research...and somewhat reluctantly, but I wanted the fluctuations to stop). Went super hyper and went on methimazole for a while. Now, these past two weeks, I've gone what seems like hypo. Intolerance to cold, sleeping a lot, and my thyroid is swollen. Almost uncomfortably so. I've also had some pressure behind the eyes.
So...my questions: is this normal?? Is it normal to possibly be hypo three months after RAI? Is the swelling normal?? I haven't actually ever seen the RE, only his PA, whose specialty is infertility, not thyroid stuff. All adjustments and decisions have been made via labwork and phone calls. Should I really push to see him? I'm just worried being so unmonitored, and I don't want things to go wacky and have nothing being done. I don't want to go back to my old endo here in town b/c he treated me for the wrong condition for 2 years!
So, so sorry for the novel...but I'm just nervous about this process. I've got a call in to the PA for lab work, since my symptoms have changed, but any other experiences/opinions would be great! And I am just frustrated.
I was hypo 5 weeks after RAI (June 2008) and was on Thyroxin 50mcg daily at a TSH of nearly 7.0 so I would be getting back to your Doc and asking for replacement meds.
I too...was on MMI for a long while and also on a see-saw with hypo to hyper to hypo every 2 weeks.
The last 3 months, I have been pretty stable so now just 'tweaking' my meds to get the dosage right.
You are most definately Hypo and need replacement meds.
