Heterogeneous echostructure may be sign of inflammatory process of the thyroid; nodule can be composed from the scar tissue that may form as a result of inflammation.
Hi the nodule shows solid which could be something or it could be nothing! Many nodules are solid and have no cancer in them. That is not to rule out of having a FNA though, as sometimes it does happen there is a cancer. Might be nothing, might be something..one of those 'iffy' things.
Your thyroid gland is a bit enlarged, bigger than the normal. But of course, that is often the cause with many thyroid disorders.
I had a solid nodule which was benign, yet 6 months later the other side had a nodule which had pre-cancer cells.. so luck of the draw I think!
Hope it goes well for you!
Yes, my FNA is next Friday. I'm not scared of the FNA, I'm scared of the results.
1st of all..95% of nodules are benign. Do you know if it is a HOT or COLD nodule?
A great book to check out at the library is 2008 Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment
the ISBN # 978-0-07-149430-4. This book answers most all questions related to Thyroid nodules and cancer.
Did your doctor order an FNA yet? That will be the next step.
I will tell you that my largest nodule was 5.6 cm when we noticed it. (part of a multinodule goiter) on US it showed a Cold solid mass. On FNA - suspicious for Pap. thyroid cancer.
Do not worry yourself. Wait for the FNA to be done and see what it comes back.
