Underactive Thyroid

I went to the OBGYN for my annual physical last week and requested some routine lab work.  I have not had my cholesterol checked and was curious to my levels.  The doctor ordered an exec profile which included TSH, Cholesterol, Blood Count, Triglycerides, etc.  I didnt expect anything to come of this blood work.  Everything came back perfect, except for my TSH, which was 13.13  According to the nurse, the high normal is 4.5.  I am 27 years old, weigh approx. 118 lbs.  I am employed as a Radiologic Technologist.  I do feel tired alot (come to think of it), but I just assumed it was due to getting up early and being so active at work all day.  What could be the cause of this and what should I expect from here?

Thanks for the heads up!  I am expecting a letter from my OBGYN to direct me to either my GP or and Endocrinologist.  I will keep this forum updated in case anyone else falls into this category.

If you have a good General Physician that you see regularly, go see him/her.

Ask for a thryroid panel to test for TSH (again), free T3, free T4, and antibodies. That will tell the whole story and then you will likely need hormone replacement.
