University of Michigan?

Have any of you received treatment at U of M for thyroid disorders?  I'm wondering if they treat solely on lab numbers/levels or symptoms too?

I had an appt. today with a new dr. who's suggesting that she refer me to them.  She said that it is clear that I have a thyroid disorder, but unsure the best method of treatment so she'd prefer to refer.  Glad to have the honesty, but sure wish I could get some relief!  Her other choices for referral were the cleveland clinic or mayo clinic -- living in Michigan, seems easier to start at U of M. ??

Anyways, just wondering if any others have been seen there.

I think it's a great place to start.  Hopefully they can get you in soon.  I'm so glad that you're finally getting somewhere too.  It has to be frustrating to KNOW there is something wrong, and have it brushed off for so long.  Glad to hear that you have hubby's support as well.  Keep me posted!

Thanks so much for your info Lori.  I'm going to call the dr. office for the referral either today or tomorrow.  It's almost like I keep having to remind myself that this dr. actually listened and believed me -- and agreed that this is all from a thyroid disorder.    So many times they've treated me like it is all in my head and I am perfectly fine -- and have made me feel like I'm wasting their time.  So, it's like I keep 2nd guessing myself --- I just don't want anyone to make me feel that bad again.  My husband thinks I should go to U of M as well, so having the support at home helped too.

Teresa -- thanks for your kind thoughts!!  I appreciate it!

I have been nothing but happy with the treatment that I've had at U of M.  I would definitely recommend it!  If you end up going there, the one thing you should know is that since it's a teaching hospital, the doctors always have a student with them.  Heck, the day after surgery - it was bright and early in the morning, and I had a whole FLOCK of them!!  Not kidding, either - there must have been at least ten of them standing at the foot of my bed.  Of course, I'm looking all beautiful after surgery and the wet washcloth plastered to my forehead and all.  :-(  The entire staff is incredible.  I know this doesn't mean a hill of beans in your treatment, but we were wandering the halls the other day looking for Nuclear Medicine so I knew where I was going to be going in a few weeks.  One of the staff walking by asked if he could help us find anything.  That's not the first time that happened, either.

I'm glad that they're finally trying to get to the bottom of what's going on with you!  Keep me posted, okay?
