Up-to-date Procedures for RAI Scan

I came here looking for answers regarding the RAI scan I just had done and I'm leaving with only more questions. I went to the health pages, and it appears that the procedure there follows what I had done 7 years ago. According to my doctor, this is no longer the procedure. I was given Thyrogen shots so that I would not have to go without my medication. I continued my normal, daily routine. I didn't have to go on a low iodine diet, either. I was researching because I found conflicting stories on whether you could eat beforehand or not, since I was not told that I couldn't; I was concerned that this could effect the outcome. Has anyone else had an RAI scan done, recently?

I have always done the LID for my scans. By being on the LID you starve any thyroid cells of iodine, and the cells will suck up the RAI and giving a better image on the scan.

Thank you for responding! While the actual procedure is different there, it is helpful to know that some of the things I was concerned about may have no bearing on the outcome of my test, since it had no bearing on how yours was done. Thanks again! :)

I had one done in May 2008 but Australia does things a lot different than they do in the UK or USA.

I was on Carbimazole (Anti-thyroid meds), I had I-121 injected into the arm, had to wait 20 minutes , then lay still on a bed while imaging was done.
I wasnt on a LID nor was I told to fast (not eat) or stop taking my meds.

Usually the LID is for when you have RAI done....not a RAIU (radioactive iodine uptake).

Also when I had RAI done, I didnt have to stop my anti-thyroid meds to go hypo until 2 days before RAI.
So the fallacy that ATDS must be stopped 3-4 weeks before RAI is utter garbage.
Mine 'took' and I was hypo 5 weeks later.

Hope that helps......
