Boy, am I having a DUH moment right now. Have you ever taken getatin capsules for the arthritis? They are abslutely amazing. I use to take them all the time and kept my arthrits from hurting at all in a very short time. Got to where I had to take so many pills, though that I quit. Just thought of them when I read your post and am going to start again.
Have an 80 cousin who has RA. My mom told her abou them and she takes them everyday and is now almost pain free. In the years since she has been taking them rheumotologist is absolutely amazed at the lack of damage from the RA.
Boy, would sure be worth a try if you haven't already. BTW, it says to take 1 cap 3X daily. We all take them in one dose. Works just as well that way.
Glad you're doing better now with everything else.
What are you going to college for?
Dac
YES .. it (scar tissue) can cause interuption in flow! But, I'm not a Dr but probably has nothing to do with the current blood in urine. My 2nd cystoscope was bcz I still was producing atypical cells and in bigger clusters than 6mos prior so they wanted to be certain they didn't miss anything that may have been early-on and not showing 6mos prior. They take blood in urine VERY seriously .. even if it is just microscopic (not visible to naked eye) and until all is ruled out they don't like it .. it can be caused by over-exercise and even taking Motrin ..so answer may be simple one .. but they do take it with caution as it can be signal for big issues, too.

You know, I think this test creates more problems than it solves. I swear I was different afterwards, and part of the problem is that it's almost like I'm sewn together down there, and it takes a minute to get enough water (urine) force to open it. I bet I have scar tissue too, and I wonder if that's causing the blood they see in the urine??!! I have a urologist appt in October, and I am going to beg to have any test but that one!
My philosophy is that God made that orifice outgoing, not incoming!!! ; )
They had to open the entry point before the scope would be enabled to go in ...... the scarring was only on that area and not inside at all. C~
Okay, am I understanding you correctly? They had to go in AGAIN to remove the scarring from the first cystoscopy????
Mine was done as outpatient under local (they swab you) in an outpatient medi center. The 2nd one they had to open up and remove some scar tissue as they say that can present from "aging" and/or after the first one was done .. wasn't too bad at all. The scope itself wasn't painful .. pressure, yes, but not any pain .. just some stinging afterwards for 24hrs but not terrible.
Ask your Doc why that happened? With me they were able to get photos of the urine dripping into the bladder from the urethra which means they were able to get pretty far up into the bladder.
Maybe they will let you take mega tranquilizer before the procedure .. that may work ???
Cheryl
Tell me about your cytoscopes. Were you knocked out, or were they done in the office with local anesthesia?
Mine was so painful (done in office with local). I can't make myself go through it again, and honestly, I never felt the same there again.
I've read they can be done in the hospital and they knock you out. That's the only way I'll be able to do it because I will get myself too worked up.
Oh. to answer your orig. ? .. no my UTI's are not related to my thyroid to the best of my knowledge and/or that of the Docs.

I used to have blood in urine too and bcz of it they did mega tests and it ruled out cancer two times .. it is called a Urovysion test and it is read only two ways: Cancer or Not Cancer .. there is none of this atypical stuff as in other pathology reports. This was done in my case bcz not only was there ongoing microscopic hematuria (blood) in the urine but I was producing ATYPICAL urethrial cells being shed in the urine along with the blood.
Turns out that the Urovysion test for these atypical cells was NEGATIVE both times .. it took 12 days for results the 2nd go around (whew). That was done 6 mos apart along with normal cystoscopes done 6 mos apart.
Blood in the urine can be caused (as in my case) by STONES MOVING AROUND in the kidney but not passing! Once I passed my pesky 4mm stone the blood in the urine has stopped too!!! My Uro stated that the atypical cells I produced were INFLAMMATORY in nature and, thus, atypical but not atypical for cancer (as proven by the urovysion tests, too which are DNA tests of the urine).
In other words, stones that stay there and don't pass readily can cause:
a) blood in urine
b) ongoing infections bcz the infection is in the nuclei of the stone and harbors bacteria
c) atypical cells in urine due to constant inflammation
d) pain (stabbing pain in kidney from movement/friction of stone stuck in kidney)
e) growth of stone(s) if they don't pass out
HAVE YOU ASKED for an IVP-X-ray with contrast? That is an excellent diagnostic tool that will show complete functionings of the ENTIRE urinary tract from kidneys down .. it takes x-rays as the contrast moves and shows the stones .. it even showed many of my "smaller" stones as being "mobile" and, thus, why I would get stabbing pains, etc. and micro blood. In my case it also showed why I have so many stones and get them ongoing .. I have a condition from birth called MEduallary Sponge Kidney or (MSK) which many have and never know about unless they have this test .. the tubules are flared and, thus, pool urine and create stones/infection easily. So I am watched by a top notch uro out of NYCity hosp on a regular basis and all is well.
Bcz of my ongoing blood in urine with no real answer they did the IVP w/contrast to r/o any tumor along the path and again, all was ok thank goodness .. so an IVP w/cystoscope pretty much will clear the way for you .... also a CT Scan will show stones as tiny as 1mm and a 1mm can cause renal colic as with my in March .... once it passed (along with a clump of mucous) my pain abated .... and mucous can cause renal colic like a stone bcz the urethras are stretched!
Hope this isn't too much info my friend!!! Just ask away ....
BTW, I make calcium oxalate stones ... I caught my 4mm and that was the lab analysis.
Cheryl (Thy Ca 1/06, melanoma Stage I fully gone and cured 6/07, Kidney stones, Gallstones too)
Are your urinary tract infections related to thyroid problem? My labs have shown blood in my urine and I have had a stone in the past (over 10 years ago), but I wonder if I'm making another... I'm petrified because my doctor wants me to have a cystoscopy. I had one after the last stone, and I haven't been the same since. I wonder if the bleeding could be from scar tissue from that!!
Tell me everything you know!
Yes, same time of day and same scenario. BUT, I am wondering if bcz I had this infection who knows if that played into it. The wonderful (but gross) news is that I passed a large am't of thick mucous so it is really all cleared out now and the remaining bits of renal colic I had today (which I didn't like having like this after a week) has an answer ....... it can hurt like a stone when that kind of stuff passes out BUT IT IS GONE and this way won't come back most likely. Also, they say that tiny little stones naked to the eye can be in a mucous clump like that .... !!!!!
I wonder if the "hyper" symptoms took hold moreso bcz of being ill with the bacterial UTI ???? We'll never know. Perhaps if I stuck it out on the 100mcgs things may have settled down now that it is cured but don't want to feel that way again regardless of reasons :0
C~
Chitchat, did you have your labs drawn at the same time of day for your level check? I'm just curious b/c like Scarlet, I'm surprised it went up with a higher dose of Synthroid... ESPECIALLY given the symptoms you were having that seemed like you were Hyper. I'm glad you're feeling better!
Wait, you forgot the men's basketball sneaks!!!!!!! Now that does complete the picture for the handicap sticker!!!!
Right now I'm on straight 88mcgs ... the Endo will call me to discuss alternating doses.
I no longer have hot flashes or anxiety .... the Endo nurse called me with results and then said Doc would call me back directly.
I am game to take some 100 during the week and the rest mostly 88 and see what happens ... told the Endo's nurse that is the Endo's call .. worst case scenario .. we back down to simpl 88 seven days a week.
C~
So surprised your TSH is higher on a higher dose.........I wonder why that happens? I also think it's interesting how you feel better on the alternating dose. Hopefully the endo will keep you with it......maybe under 1 is too hyper for your body?
I'm not supposed to have labs checked again until October which surprises me becasue I have only had 1 normal lab result since Dec. - maybe I'll have to ask if i can have them done soon- because I am feeling a bit off.
Congrats on the p[ositive culture!! It's always good when we can show the doc's we know our bodies!!
I'm chuckling @ the handicap temp tag- not because I don't think you need but because All I can picture is a wobbly potato in the handicapped space LOL!

Yes .. in both shoes and I fully agree the good foot is TOO padded and I feel it as a drop-off and pain bcz it isn't right!!!!
They cannot do a cortisone injection bcz of the severity of the tendonitis .. they said it will cause a rupture :(
I have better joint movement since the therapy has helped the arthritis and most the pain is tendon and not arthritic/joint so one of those chicken lubricants (synthetic synovial fluid) isn't indicated but I was thinking about asking at next appt in Sept.
Yes, pretty bad when we do the happy dance for a positive lab test, huh LOL?!
I've had cortisone for bad tennis elbow and it helped both times but boo hoo on this problem not allowing me to have one. THANKS FOR THE IDEAS!!!
C~
are you using the orthotics in both shoes??? if so....hmmm...thats weird. when my daughter had to use them she thought they worked great on both feet ( she used them for one bad knee problem). So...maybe more or less padding in the good shoe is needed....?
I should know this but......is there any way that an injection could help the ankle...maybe lubricate things a little more then they are?? I have had them for two different areas on my body and LOVE them.
Its pretty bad when hope a test results shows a postitive and your HAPPY because it proves you were right all along! LOL been there ...done that.
Glad the UTI is about over with...you can scratch that one off your list. LOL
And Im most glad that your having good luck with ortho #2. Life is SO much easier when you have a good dr and nurse to help you.
My Ortho is authorizing a 2 mo handicap parking sticker which is much-needed as I am most likely starting school *college* and it sits on top of a hill and I just cannot climb the stairs up the mountain on a regular basis ..... so more calls to find out the process .. I ret'd the nurse's call this morning .. this Ortho #2 is so super that she called me back with a thumb's up on my request within an hour of leaving a message!!!!!
