Viral Thyroiditis

I just went through few months of swollen lymph nodes,neck pain,night sweats,fatigue and so on and a doctor just finally diagnosed it as viral thyroiditis. I am feeling better now but my question is how common is this and how do you get it?

Sure.

The reason you want to get those tests is to see if you have autoimmune issues going on that could be the reason for the swelling. Hashimoto thyroiditis can linger for years with subtle tightness and flare up - especially when a virus or illness is attacking your immune system.

A full panel of labs should be done to see where all the thyroid levels are at.

TSH
Free T3
Free T4
TPOab = antibodies
Tgab = complete antibodies

Really? The doctor never mentioned that at all. He just told me I had a classic case of viral thyroiditis and dismissed me.

It's an attack from the immune system to the thyroid.

Cause?? unknown...

If I were you I would CERTAINLY get antibody testing very soon.

TPOab and Tgab readings.
