Wait -OR- Schedule Appt?

I am an overweight white female, 44 yo.
I am constantly fatigued, sleepy, and I am being treated for depression.
I have what looks to be a golf ball sized lump at the base of my neck.  It can be seen very well when I look up.
My thyroid function tests are normal.

My thyroid ultrasound test results are:
Right lobe measures 5.3 cm x 2.2 cm x 2.2 cm.
  Left lobe measures 4.8 cm x 1.7 cm x 1.7 cm.

Multiple bilateral nodules are seen.
The largest within the right lobe measures 1.5 cm.
The largest within the left lobe measures 1.4 cm.

There are peripheral calcifications seen within the largest nodule within the right lobe of the thyroid gland.

RECOMMEND RE-CHECK IN 6 MONTHS.

I understand the family practice physician wants me to wait 6 months to re-check, but I feel compelled to go ahead and schedule an appt. with an endocrinologist.

What should I do?  Wait or go ahead?  Thanks!

Hi I am new here but if I were you I would get a second opinion with a endocrinologist some things it just doesn't pay to wait on. I have other problems ( mainly back ) and would not be in the situation I am in now if I had not waited because I trusted everything the doctor said. Only you have your best interest at heart, follow it, It rarely leads you wrong. Good luck and by the way this forum is very helpful for any questions you have. They have given me some great advice.

With those symptoms I would be suspicious of being hypothyroid, so it is good that you got some testing done.  Just because test results were within the so-called "normal" ranges does not mean they are adequate for you.

I think a good first step is to please post your test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report.  If you don't have a copy, it is always a good idea to do so and write on there how you were feeling at the time and what meds/supplements you were taking.  These copies then become very valuable to you for future reference.  The doctor is required to provide a copy upon your request.

Once you post those results and reference ranges then members will be glad to help interpret and advise further.
