Weak Immune System/Flu and H1N1 Vaccine

In your opinion...should people with weakened immune systems get this shot? I was thinking yes, but my friends GP and Endo told him that he shouldn't because it can make an already weakened immune system worse? It's no secret that some people DO get sick after receiving the shot. What do you guys think?

Mercury is a cytotoxin (toxic to all living cells) and, after Plutonium, is the most toxic substance known to man.  Formaldehyde has been classified as a known human carcinogen (cancer-causing substance) by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.  Mercury and formaldehyde are among the ingredients listed in the 2013 - 2014 flu vaccines.

Excerpts from three of the flu vaccine package inserts:

Fluzone High-Dose: There have been no controlled clinical studies demonstrating a decrease in influenza disease after vaccination with Fluzone High-Dose.

Agriflu: No controlled efficacy trials have been performed to indicate a decrease in influenza disease after vaccination with AGRIFLU.

Afluria: There have been no controlled clinical studies demonstrating a decrease in influenza disease after vaccination with AFLURIA.

I think all should get the flu vaccination.  I agree that those certainly with the history of Guillain-Barre syndrome should not and a few other people should not.  I know that I have always gotten my flu shot except for a few times when I had had a cold and was not feeling well at tthe time and them opted not to get it--those few times I ended up getting the flu itself--believe you me I had so wished I had taken the flu vaccination--I was so sick with the flu and it took me a month to feel myself again.  I am a nurse and some of our admitted patients have the flu--some we don't find out that they have it till a few days after admission and we all have been already  been exposed. You've got to protecty yourself and your family--get the flu shot unless your md recommends not to.  I  personally would not get the nasal spray because for those of us with "weakened" immune systems I personally don't think it would be good since this nasal spay is a weakend form of the actual flu virus--the shot/vaccination is not live in any way and as I understand it is synthetic not the actual virus itself.

In my opinion, we are meant to catch viruses and even get sick off of them, that's what strengthens our bodies immune system, the chemicals that are in vaccines such as preservatives do more harm than the vaccines does good, check this web page and decide for yourself. http://www.naturalnews.com/038420_flu_shots_toxins_chemical_preservatives.html
I have never received the flu vaccine or the pneumonia vaccine. I have had a few colds that go away quickly through natural remedies and I have had pneumonia twice about 10 years ago when there was an outbreak. which was cured with antibiotics. there is a greater risk of getting  Guillain-Barre Syndrome with vaccination. Not only that but vaccinations against the flu are still in the testing stages and humans are the guinea pigs . As a nurse I am exposed to many bugs, but with proper hygiene infections are preventable  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001704/

My apologies to you, Stella.

I guess I'll not comment in here anymore for fear of saying the wrong thing...even though I was just giving MY OPINION (what the op asked for) on flu shots for people with weakened immune systems (also what the op asked for.)

You are very unwelcoming in YOUR thyroid "board."  (It's a forum on a very large, often overlapping board, by the way.)

I'll leave you to educate the masses, then.

You're right.. but it is here in a thyroid board so that was the train of thought I was in.

I used the other diseases as an example as I have lived through both the non-vaccinated era and the vaccinated era.

My thoughts are still that I, as a thyroid patient with a weakened immune system will continue to get Flu shots yearly. I have had the flu and ended up in an Intensive care ambulance and nearly died, so for me it's a no-brainer.
For others it needs to be an informed and personal choice.

With all due respect, the original post says:

"In your opinion...should people with weakened immune systems get this shot?"

...and while we may be on a thyroid forum, the actual question asks if people with "weakened immune systems" should get this shot.  So I don't think I was out of line with my response.

Immunizations are always a hot topic no matter where you are or with whom you discuss it.  There are always people who can quote studies which have shown that immunizations cause ADHD or autism and on the flip side, there are just as many who can show that they don't cause those issues.

I was just offering my opinion in response to the actual original question.

my brother-in-law had whooping cough.  He was vaccinated.  Vaccinations don't necessarily prevent the things they are meant to.

I  believe that the biggest factor in preventing disease is public hygiene, sanitation, and nutrition.

Interesting comments. Thanks! Today, my sister had an appt with her Endo...she also had TT and has psoriatic arthritis (another autoimmune disorder). Her Endo told her not to get the shot because her immune system is weak..period. Which leads me to think about my immune system..TT, psoriasis, mono (at age 35..which is unusual), etc. I do take a Immunity Support Multi and 2000 units Vit D daily. I'm a bit leery of getting the shot. I work in a hospital, which is the only reason I would get it. I don't have direct contact with patients, though. I am heavily leaning towards not getting it. I did get it a few years back and live virus in the vaccination or not..I ended up very sick.

My family and I NEVER get the flu shot of any type and we never get the flu! Lots of exposure to these viruses and germs in school for my 3 kids.  I am a former first grade teacher, so I was sneezed on, coughed on etc.. more than my share! LOL!  Lots of vitamins (especially vitamin D)  good diet, proper rest and handwashing is a must and has worked great for us.

I have Graves disease or had (TT) but I was never told not to get the flu shot by my doctor or endo. Some years I would get it, others I would not get the shot. I have never heard of the flu shot attacking the antibodies. I for the last couple of years do not get the flu shot, but only because I am too lazy to go get it done...

I think everyone reacts different to things, so what happens to one by getting it will not happen to the other. It all comes down to, Do YOU want to get it...

Also please note...... that I did say and I quote "Personally, I think MOST vaccinations" I did not want to start a debate because I have a ton of other ammunition but these forums are for information and not opinion.

Many thanks all stay healthy

We weren't discussing people with diseased suppressed immune systems - I understood we were talking about thyroid patients and if these immunizations were right for them.

There are many things to look.

Does the person take the right diet and supplement protection to ward off these illnesses first? - Most of our development in our lives could use improvement in right diet choices and supplements that can allow the body to not get sick and in my opinion, the recent explosion of all these new anti-agents to keep us healthy does not have alot of study supporting their claims.

Red, those illnesses you speak of are truely heart wrenching for someone to go through and decades of studies are out there on the pro's and con's of getting certain vaccines.

I believe we were discussing the flu - not polo or those other epidemics.

Hate to say it but would we all like to be back to the days when Polio, Whooping Cough, Diptheria and many others killed hundreds of thousands more than the slight risk of getting a little bit ill for a few days or so? Vaccinations are there to save lives, those who refuse to (for personal or religious reasons) are entitled to their opinion, but medically, it is a fact that these diseases will continue to spread if not contained by allowing the body to recognise the virus and react and produce it's antibodies to whatever disease it is.

I challenge you to watch a child suffering from whooping cough and feel helpless when you live in an area where the Mum's in that area believe it contains more than the vaccine, and refuse to get their children vaccinated, thereby when the virus is in contact (and the amount of viruses you are breathing right this minute in the air will astound you!) with the host, it is devastating to watch. ( I use this as an example, as not many people in the last 100 years get to see the suffering from the disease as it slowly kills a person) Thank Goodness for vaccinations I say, even if they turned me into an ADHD or three headed monster, I do not want any of those diseases, Swine Flu or any other type!

Information I found........

H1N1 Nasal Spray Vaccine Prevents Swine Flu
The presence of living H1N1 virus in the nasal spray vaccine poses risks. Weak immune response can result in infection by the inhaled version of the swine flu vaccine.

The swine flu vaccine is created within chicken eggs, and is processed to create a large batch of antigen, which will provoke an immune response within the vaccinated individual. H1N1 vaccine that is intended for injection contains only purified pieces of dead swine flu virus, which is unable to cause an infection, but stimulates the production of antibodies within the body. Inhaled swine flu vaccine, however, contains the living H1N1 virus, and should not be administered to certain individuals as a result.

There was some talk a few weeks back here in Australia that childrens immunizations leaned towards causing ADHD and in children.
I tend to believe some of the studies they have done.

Personally, I think MOST vaccinations are a good way for BIG Pharma to make some dollars. I have a few friends that work for pharma companies, but whatever.

Next, a weakened immune system or not, when you throw thimerosal(mercury based preservative) and everything else into your system, it has to be a shock to anyone and who knows what it can do.

Lets look at the facts... 1 in 13 people have an auto immune disease these days. Cancer is on the rise, as well as young children with ADHD, Autism, etc. I have heard Infants these days have like 39 immunization shots, or boosters by the age of 3. You do the math, what else has changed in this world that would affect these numbers aside from chemicals and stuff in our food? There has to be a correlation and data has been collected, too bad lots of people keep us from the facts.

I don't want to sound too negative, just want people to think about things because I truely care. Its hard to get true facts out there.

In my opinion, I would check your vitamin D levels and make sure they are optimal.  Vitamin D has been shown to be more effective than vaccines for prevention of flu, and many autoimmune conditions.

I don't take any vaccines.  I believe that nutrition and rest are far more important to a strong immune system.  Vaccines have other things in them that are toxic, even if the organism is dead.  Many vaccines also don't have a very strong effect and people can still get the bug they were vaccinated against....

However, for certain populations where specific bugs may kill the (ie. HIV, cancer)... then certain vaccines may be recommended.

Very personal opinion and personal choice.

Just a point...many (if not most) vaccinations do not have any "live" agent in them.

I'm sorry but to say, "build up your weak immune system first" is kind of just a pie in the sky fantasy for some people...such as those who are HIV+ or those with cancer, people undergoing chemo, etc.

In a perfect world yes, we would all be able to just eat well, live right and pump up our immune systems...but very few of us live in that perfect world.

I'm like redheadaussie and get all of the vaccinations available to me IF my doctor recommends them.  But again, it is a personal choice.

I have to agree with the doctor that told you not to get it. In my opinion, these vaccines have not had any long term look and the fact of injecting this on a weak immune system is not good.

In many thyroid patient situations the immune system is weak to begin with and the vaccines carry the sickness with an antidote to "immune" the system from the full virus. It doesn't work as easy as they say when you immune system is shot.

If its validated you have a weak immune system then build that up first. The body is capable of warding off these illnesses if the system is working right.

I have had it and I know if I got the everyday flu would end up in ER like I did a few years ago in the back of an ambulance.
Personally I always get a few side effect symptoms (which is normal for the mainstream population as well) like a bit of a temp, pains in the joints and pain where the injection site is. But as an immuno-suppressed patient I would never not have it. The results of getting flu or swine flu are deadly and I for one like to live!

As with any vaccine some people will react worse than others, so it is a highly personal choice.

The flu injection is a a no-no for me in my opinion.
I had it for 7 years every year and every year ended up with Broncitis and Pneumonia.
I havent had it for 12 years now and have not had Pneumonia or Broncitis.

I would never touch it as I have Graves Disease and it is a well known fact that the Graves antibodies see any flu vaccine as 'foreign' and attack your body.
