You should not combine an OTC thyroid supplement, such as thyroid plus, with synthroid, without your doctor's okay. If you were only diagnosed and prescribed synthroid a week ago, it's far too soon to see much, if any, effect from the synthroid, as it takes 5-6 weeks for the hormone levels to build in your blood.
Some of the vitamins/minerals in the supplement might benefit you, but you should take them take them separately.
it would be a miracle from God if it made my ear ringing go away.
I wanted to get your opinion on something. I cant tell if this is from the hypothyroidism or what. This is probably my chief complaint. Keep in mind i have had every test done, seen 3 ents, have had a brain MRI, MRI ears, MRI sinus's, vestubular balance test. All were clean.
Every day around 3 Pm for the past year I start to get this horrible buzzing in my ears. As 3 pm passes, the buzzing starts building its intensity. I also get a little stiffness in my neck, and my ears start to feel "full". The buzzing gets really bad to the point where my ears actually hurt. As the evening winds down so does the intensity, or maybe i just get used to it. I also get anxiety palpatations with it. Noises upset me, and actually scare me like a timid child.
Then I go to sleep, wake up and it starts all over again.
Has anyone heard of this?

Hi, where can you buy Thyroid plus?
Terri
I'm sorry, -I just don't know how it would interact with other thyroid agents. -I may eventually default to Armour or synthetic medl, but for now I'm doing the 'trial and error" treatment course with the thyroid supplementation to see if I can get things leveled out. Perhaps, if you contact Priority One , the makers of Thyroid Plus, they could answer your question? ~MM
Can i take the thyroid plus with synthroid?
was diagnosed a week or so ago and was put on .1 synthroid.
Thanks
I don't think you will go hyper from the Thyroid Plus; from what I've heard, the OTC thyroid supplements have little, or no, actual hormones (T3 and T4), they are simply bovine thyroid tissue. I hope you continue to do well on it.
so you were taking 1 pill per day? please let me know, mine is on its way...
bruce
Hi Bruce,
Yes I'm a Hashi's too. I've only been diagnosed since Dec 2010, so learning how to manage this is still pretty new to me.
Hi Barb,
The thyroid ingredient is bovine in Thyroid Plus and my Naturopath has experience with managing thyroid patients -so I'll keep asking questions, but so far he has done the most good for me. My endo still just looks at the labs (ignores the antibodies) and says I'm fine -no meds needed.
Because this is so new for me, my ND is progressing the dose slowly -initially 1/2 dose (I was mistakingly taking the full 130 mg for the first two weeks and began to feel improvement just 5 days into the meds. He had me drop to his 1/2 dose, and within a week many of the symptoms that had resolved, came back.) Now I'm on alternating doses 65 mg even days, 130 mg odd days...So far so good...Its been a month and no signs of hyper, and many of the hypo signs are gone...I'm also doing an elimination diet (no gluten, caffeine, refined anything, corn, wheat, dairy, sugar, chocolate(!), peanuts, or potatoes). Oddly, its not too bad so far...~MM
Don't know about Erfa dosages, but Nature-throid (by RLC labs), which is also desiccated comes in 1/4 grain and 1/2 grain (as well as higher amounts too).
i have the .13 tirosint. took it for 4 weeks, made me just as sick. I think im becomming more hypo. I bought the thyroid plus. Im going to try it for a week, or a day, or whatever to see what it does.
Does anyone know if they make 1/2 grain pills of erfra? then i can break that in half
Found the list of ingredients of ThyroidPLus Priority One

Bruce- Tirosint is now making 13 mcg dosages for patients that need just a tiny bump. Just a thought....But that won't provide any T3 that you might need. A compound pharmacist might just be the way to go.
I have 1 grain of erfra. I wish there was a way to break it up smaller
Yes. He gave me levothoxryl but it crumbles when you break it up. Been talking to a local compound pharmacist to see if he has any ideas. Looked for priority one thyroid but couldn't find it.
Are you eating the right kinds of things? veggie? lean protein? plenty of fiber?
Be sure you eliminate refined sugar, flour and white rice.
Bruce, have you talked to your doctor about splitting that 25 mcg pill into 1/4's for a while?
medic mommy,
do you have hashimotos?
redhead and barb, seems like the more i eat, the hungrier i get. its weird.
bruce
I have that thyroid now stuff but never took it. Scared too,
.how long before you could tell a difference? I'm very sensitive to medicine. Just .25 of thyroid sends me packing.
I looked at the web site for the Thyroid Plus - the supplements are pretty much those that we usually recommend; however, they don't say what the "thyroid" is........ do you have any idea?
I can't help wonder how safe this really is. Has your Naturopath indicated that you will be fine on this indefinitely, or does he plan to, eventually, put you on a prescribed thyroid hormone, such as synthroid, Tirosint, Armour, etc?
Eggs are a good source of protein, and they also supply a good hefty dose of vitamin B12, to help keep the energy levels up, but as red says, you need to add other sources of protein as well. You can snack on yogurt, or even a glass of low fat milk, with a piece of fruit (whole fruit, not juice)
Load up on veggies!! Most veggies are naturally very low in calories and are loaded with filling fiber. You can snack on carrot or celery sticks, sweet peppers, cucumbers, etc.
The main thing is to steer clear of "refined" sugar, flour, white rice, etc; stick with as much fresh/frozen food as you can. The more processed a food is, the higher the calories are likely to be.
It's also a good idea to change up your exercise on a regular basis.
Protein protein protein. AND fibre! Fill up on big time with fibre and protein and you shouldn't feel so hungry. I have Hashi as you know, and appetite is a big issue for most of us. Knowing how to satisfy that tummy and the brain the key to keeping the weight off.
Look up on google for foods high in fibre, and use some of them as snacks rather than the eggs all the time. Some protein in them but not enough.
Hiya!
You betcha -Been there, done that, bought the book...I'm a bit jaded with Western medicine Drs right now, so I'll spare you a tirade about Drs treating labs and not the patients. Two months ago I began seeing a Naturopath with the small hope of reclaiming some energy and getting my memory to work again. He found the thyroid antibodies and began me on a natural thyroid med one month ago.
I'm telling you, I feel like I have a miracle in progress! A week after I began taking it, suddenly I was sleeping again, my heart palpitations began to go away, I began to lose weight (water, I think as the edema in my legs would have made an elephant envious), I wasn't starving all the time, my energy level began to pick up (probably because I was getting quality sleep?) and my brain fog began to clear a little. Now, I am nearly back to my old energy level (I cleaned the entire house yesterday!) I can remember what I said five minutes ago, and my joints and body doesn't hurt. Funny, I'd had the tinnitis so long that I forgot it was there, but it seems to be gone too...
I know this med isn't a cure for Hashi's, but it certainly has made me feel much better already. If you want to look at it, it is Thyroid Plus made by Priority One. It has some supplementary stuff as well as 130 mg of thyroid/dose. Also, since Jan 2, I have been on a gluten-free diet. Perhaps this is contributing to my energy level and overall wellness too...Good luck and I hope you find the key to end your suffering. ((((HUGZ))))~MM
