Does anyone have any success stories about losing weight after being put on Synthroid? I would like to hear some encouraging words. I have gained 50 pds. and are miserable. I have not been on meds long enough to tell any difference in energy or hunger, but I am hopeing there will be some difference in the future.
I had topped off 30 pounds heavier after I went hypoT - Now that I finally am starting to balance off I had some wieght loss. 8 pounds off after 3 months - NOT MUCH or what I had hoped - but better than it could be.
Sugar and flour are hypoT enemies. Soy is not good either.
You should try to maintain a very low calorie diet of veggies (not much fruit) and high protein meals.
I used to be able to drop 15 pounds / and mild daily exercise (ie housework etc ) in a month prior to becoming hypo - now I have trouble seeing two pounds drop off in a month.
It is so frustrating - but like the person above - it gets better.
Thanks for the comments. I know I need to have more patience, but this has been so frustrating. I also was always able to lose weight with diet and exercise. I noticed I had gained a few pds. and was not worried. I got back on the treadmill and was lifting weights at least 4 times a week. Did not lose a pd. I became very frustrated and that began a vicious cycle of diet-not losing-eating-gaining more. So I finally stopped trying. I guess I am a little afraid of trying again. Hopeing for better sucess this time on meds. Thanks again.
I have been on the meds for about 5 months and whatever I eat or don't eat I still put on weight. It is really upsetting, but I just can't seem to get any weight off. I have to go for another blood test next week, so perhaps my meds need to be increased and that will help the fat come off.
Mentally it is very frustrating- In my case I was hypERthyroid/Graves for a long time undiagnoised - so I lost weight like a drop in the bucket all my adult life.
Then hypo came and all changed.
I was at 125 pound average for 15 years - Now I am at 158 and ticked. I know how you feel - but the only thing we can do is repair our bodies back to optimal health and the rest will follow.
I've been on levothyroxine for 2 years and when i first went on it i was 80kg as i had put on quite a substantial amount weight due to the hypothyroidism. I now weigh 69kg! =) I must admit the first few months were the worst as i just carried on putting on weight and i was still lathargic with no energy but now i feel great ...i try 2 watch what i eat and go to the gym a few times a week 2 stay fit! I still have the odd time when i have a good old binge on chocolate and put on a few pounds but all is well and it soon comes off again.
Try your hardest to stay positive as trust me it DOES get better !
Hope i've helped!
