Thanks 898. I appreciate the feedback. I am hoping beyond hope my situation is a temporary one.
The inhomogeneity can be found in the thyroid of normal size as well; if thyroidiitis is not chronic, it can improve over the years [however will not completely gone] similar to the scars on the skin .
Thanks 898 for replying. I am hoping my situation is only a case of thyroiditis. I believe I was hypothyroid for a few years and over did iodine supplementation and kicked myself over the hyperthyroid. Is the inhomogeneity a result of the increasing size of my thyroid and is this something that can be corrected with treatment---either pharmaceutical or naturopathy?
Laura, I overlooked your previous question. Yes, I am now being tested for antibodies, so I'm looking forward to this result as well. I'll let you know.
It means that the thyroid structure is not uniform; usually it indicates the inflammatory priocess in the past or present.
I forgot to ask...
Does the word "inhomogeneity" found in my ultrasound results signify something negative, or is it considered normal?
Hank
Hi Laura. Thanks for responding. I'm new here and again, I appreciate the input. I went to have the thyroid levels tested this morning and should have the results within a week or so. I did realize that my doctor wants the total T3 levels checked and not the Free T3, so I am a little disappointed to find this out. I have read that the Free T3 is the more revealing between the two. Is there a difference and does it matter?
Thanks again in advance,
Hank
Hi Hank and welcome. When you get your Free T3 levels, please include your labs normal ranges with it when you post, along with the t4 test. Then we can get a better look at you! :) Also did you have any antibody testing done for Hashimoto's or Graves?
I forgot to mention I will be getting T3 levels checked tomorrow.
Thanks again.
