What are the chances a benign nodule will turn nasty?

Or does a benign nodule always stay benign?

Or is it better to cut your chances and get it cut out anyway?

I was told with my nodules that were atypical that "atypical chances of turning into thyca were something like 16 or 26% .. that, in itself was enough to get at least 1/2 the thyroid out .. turns out they were totally benign but they found two other small areas of Papillary Cancer elsehwere in the gland after I was closed up (48hrs later).

I had a follicular lesion that was inconclusive with FNA.Had a TT last Dec and it turned out to be follicular thyca.SOP is that if you are male and over 40 and have a cold nodule then the chances of having a TT are pretty good..at least thats what all my Drs told me...anyway most of them are benign.
