What is Armour? and Ques. about Iodine

In all of my research for the past few days in trying to find a "cure" for my lack of saliva production,  I keep seeing articles about Armour. What exactly is this?

I also came across a lot of stuff about Iodine defficiency. Can you supplement Iodine when you have NO thyroid?  I was looking at the defficiency symptoms and of course I have all of them. Whether or not they are actual symptoms of that I'm not sure. Just curious about all this stuff I'm reading.

Armour is a "natural" compound of hormones made by grinding up pig thyroids and refining it to make replacement hormones for people. It contains T4 and T3, which differs from synthetic hormones that only provide T4.

Many people want to take Armour because it is natural and the perception is that natural is better than synthetic. SOME people benefit from Armour because the T3 in it boosts the concentration of T3 in their system.

Unless you have a problem converting T4 into T3, taking Armour can give you too much T3, so it is not suitable for many people to take it. Doctors don't like it, because most people do not need it, and there are consistancy issues from batch to batch.

If you need it, it is a Godsend. If you want it but don't need it, it can make you ill.

Iodine. This is why I didn't answer sooner. Not sure what to say. I've been told the only gland in your body that uses iodine is your thyroid. I'm not sure that's true.

I've also been told once you are on replacement hormones you have to watch your iodine intake. I'm not sure that's true, either.

Can iodine deficiency occur if you have no thyroid? I don't know.

Who's the iodine expert around here?
