Antithyroglobulin antibodies, or TGab is one type of thyroid antibodies. It means that the thyroid problem is an autoimmune disease.
TGab attacks thryogobulin, which is a product of the thyroid. Thyrogobulin is used in the process of making T4 and T3 hormones. When the thyroglobulin is being destroyed the ability of the thyroid to produce hormones is impaired.
241 is a high enough number to be concerned about, but it could easily be much higher. The amount of damage the antibodies are doing is less than it could be.
I don't mean to trivialize it. I'm just being frank.
If she hasn't been tested for TPOab, she should be. TRab, as well.
With the amount of thyroid replacement hormones she is taking, there is more history than just a TGab of 241. Has she had an ultrasound?
TPO is Thyroid PerOxidase, a thyroid antibody that becomes elevated in Hashimoto's. It is a common cause of Hypothyroidism.
Use AR-10's advice, and hopefully you can get your levels worked out. It takes a little tweaking over time.
my daughters Anti-Thyroglobs number is 241.0 - trying to find out what this means - she is on Synthroid 100 a day and Cytomel - and also other bipolar meds - her DHEA is 49 adn Estradiol 279 - I have lots of other numbers - think I will send them off to the Endocrinologist that I use - but if you have any info - I would love to hear it
They checked TPO but not sure if that is antibodies or not. That came back less than 10 which is normal.
What others are they? I have never had a doctor check for any antibodies until now. They have only checked t4, t3 and TSH in the past. My doctor now said that I should have had all this checked in the beginning when I was first diagnosed. I just didn't know any of this.
Hi there,
I just wanted to elaborate on the antibodies. They test for these to check for autoimmune thyroid disease such as Graves, or Hashi's. There are others that they also test for. So for that paticular test you came back fine, but did the doctor test any others? I don't know about the Ultrasound it sounds a bit strange to me, but I do know that it isn't Graves, which is good. So now it's time to find out what it is.

I got my results of my thyroid ultrasound and the doctor said no nodules or tumors but inhomegenous texture throughout. Should I be concerned?
He said not to worry about low TSH because t4 and t3 were normal. I don't go to the Endo until the 20th. I am concerned it could get worse.
Hi!
My TSB was 2.3 before I switched
three months ago and I was having symptoms. I was checked last month and it was still at 2.0.
Still having symptoms. Not sure what would fix it.
My doctor is making me an appt with an Endo and wants to do an untrasound of my thyroid next week. I have not had that before so I guess he is just checking. I will keep you posted.
They make a dose of 112mcg.
TGab, or antithyroglobulin antibodies. Everybody has some, and 40 is a good number. 200 is a bad number.
Ask your doctor about maybe taking 125mcg five days a week and 100mcg two days a week.
How high was your TSH before you were switched to 125mcg?
Do they make a dose of 110mcg?
