I am very lucky to live part of the year in Panama, so I have access to American, European, and Asian medications. I take Eutirox (same as Euthyrox by Merck) 50mcg/25mcg - I alternate days - which seems to be my "sweet spot".  I also take the following for "significant" osteoporosis: Actonel, plus Vitamin D3-ANALOG  from Denmark for bone re-mineralization (which is not available in the USA yet, but has been used all over Europe with lab proven success), and Crestor for high cholesterol.  I had to come to Panama to be diagnosed with Hashi/hypo because my USA family doctor would not run any test except TSH, even though I repeatedly asked him to do the thyroid panel.  He said the TSH was normal so no need to test any more. The Panama doctor did the panel without argument -- they showed I had very low FT4 +  a sonogram which showed a mild goiter. (I now have a different USA doctor!)  It is really nice to be able to compare and contrast levels of treatment from both medical systems. We are finding that in Panama it costs a lot less for medication, procedures, and treatments.  Also, we feel the level of care is better and definitely more easily obtained  in Panama --  the possible exception being for something very specialized, which is more readily available in a larger country. For example, very few of our medications are actually cheaper in the USA when paying Medicare copay's. So, most of them we buy outright here in Panama for less than the copay would be in the USA.  If you check, you will find that medical tourism is very big right now -- Costa Rica and Panama are especially popular.  Dr.'s are frequently trained in the USA, Canada, or Europe, and some have actually practiced for a while in one of those countries. Actually, medical costs were one of the reasons we decided to spend part of the year in Panama.  It has proved to be a very good decision.

I take 2  0.5mcg of calcitriol and about 2500 mg of calcium supplements a day. I also take Crestor for high cholesterol becasue I guess my parathroid disorder is causing my liver to overproduce now. lovely!

Not completely sure of you exact question either but after reading your journal entry I can say that being prescribed Rocalcitrol (vitamin D) would make sense.

BTW - This is probably already obvious to you but parathyorid problems, that cause stomach issues, can be genetic.

Take care.

Sorry...I just read your profile.

The Synthroid is because your TSH is high and not low as you said.
Get your levels checked ( TSH, Free T3, Free T4) every 4-6 weeks to make sure you are on the right dosage.
Also I would be asking your Doctor to check your Calcium level.
In regards to your daughter who suffers with Hypothyroidism, she should also be checked regulary.
Is she on Synthroid too?

If your TSH is low then you shouldnt be on Synthroid.
Low TSH is Hyper.
High TSH is Hypo.
Synthroid is only taken if you are Hypo.
Rocotrol is Vitamin D, isnt it?
Why are you on vitamin D.
Maybe explain a little better so others can reply to your post.
