What next?

Hello Everyone,

My mother is 57 and has recently got thyroid scan done as she frequently had throat pain (it cannot be called exactly pain, its like something prinking). The reports says, Thyroid glands is diffusely enlarged with altered echotexture.

Right lobe of thyroid is measuring 4.3*2.8*2.3cms with the volume of 15cc, showing nodule measuring 3.0*2.3cms, few cystic area is noted within. No foci or calcification. Central and peripherial vascularity noted.

Th left lobe of thyroid is 3.3*2.1*2.4 cms, with the volume of 10cc.

The impression is diffuse thyromegaly with right lobe nodule. Suggested FNAC correlation.

Can someone help me how to go about with it now as the doctor has prescribed medicines for 3 months.

regards,

Sorry no one has responded.  We all volunteer our time on the forum, and unfortunately, some posts get overlooked.

I'm, by no means, an expert in ultra sounds; however, the right lobe is certainly enlarged/inflamed, with a large nodule, and the radiologist is clearly recommending an FNA (fine needle aspiration), in which tissue will be removed from the thyroid/nodule and submitted for further testing.
