What's a "dump"?

New to this site - I've never seen this term in any of the literature that I've read for the last 10 years on this... what is it?
Thanks.

Well you know were always serious here.......... : )

Yes, it's kind of a slang term I guess. Storm, dump whatever. Not to scientific in detail or decsription and everyone has different symptoms with it, and maybe gender specific ones too.

I may have experienced one last spring, I just called it a thyroid attack. Thyroid swelled, hard to breath (!), sweaty, shaky, palps, sore throat, some other things, freaky. Totally out of the blue. Why, I don't know. Did it leak thyroid from inflammation?; I don't know. Lab blood work at the time did not answer any questions. Got an ultrasound at the hopital, had a fancy term for a 'Hoshi looking'  thyroid (not going to look for it at the moment), which was not new news,  had Hoshi for many years.

Just hope it doesn't  happen again.

Graves sounds nasty, cant slow down a freight train. At least you can take a nap (like a lazy moose) and feel a little better when experiencing hypo. Ahh....periodic napping......part of my good old days before raising the T3.

to LazyMoose: The question was begging for your answer ;-)

to redheadaussie: Thanks - that helps. I've had Grave's since age 11, now burn-out so not familiar with Hashimoto's symptoms until very recently.

Ha ha Lazymoose!

It is when the thyroid suddenly produces too much hormone and the body can't handle it. Often in its most serious form it is called a Thyroid Storm. This is extremely serious and must be treated as a medical emergency.

Many patients say that they are having a thyroid dump and feel unwell. It can be due to a change in Hashimoto disease, swinging from hypo to hyper, thus giving the feeling of being dumped too much hormone and feeling sweaty, heart racing, palpitations etc.

The more serious Thyroid Storm is far more debilitating and needs medical assistance urgently.

hope that helps!

1)A place where bears roam and frolic for tasty treats.

2) Something you flush.

(I couldn't resist)
