When will I begin to lose weight?

It has been a month on my synthroid medication.  125 mcgs of valothyroine or whatever sounds close to that.  When will I begin to lose weight?  I lost weight being hyper and then gained it back in a month when I was treated with RAI and became hypo.  So november treated for hyper and then February started being hypo and now a month later on meds.  Waiting for the pills to get me to normal.  I am starting to get my energy back and my arms stopped losing circulation and all that.

Please some one give me a guess!

I didn't mean any disrespect to you on not knowing your meds - I just can not stress enough the total importance of "knowing" exactly what is going on with you.

It can be very depressing on the weight and your endo sounds very typical in his answers - he amoungst many others can not seem to see the hand in front of there face when it comes to weight issues and thyroid disease. ANDdon't believe him.... weight IS an issue with thyroid disease.

BUT - be positive. I wasn't saying you will never lose the weight. It takes time first to concentrate on getting your thyroid back in "shape" then worry about the body. So much internally is going on - you must concentrate on that. It is important and there is alot you can do to help yourself get healthy again. You must learn about the disease and YOU.

It is levothyroxine is what I am on at 125 mcgs  I meant whatever I am on because I can't always remember what the name of the prescription  is called I wasn't being flip about my medicine.  I knew that someone would know what the name of it was if i got close enough to the name.
Your answer is very depressing and sounds like I have no hope of ever getting back to normal again.
My endo dr. claims that thyroid and metabolism have nothing to do with weight and I still don't believe him.  Living through this phase in my life and seeing him thin and not a thyroid patient well I would guess he doesn't know what it is like.
When he wrote me the prescription he said to me don't worry you will be back to seeing the weight coming off soon enough.
Well so far nothing.

You need to comprehend the whole thyroid disease. and respectfully "whatever" on your meds is probably not the best approach to have on this.

It is most likely a form of Levothyroxine. The brand name would be  Levothroid®, Levoxyl®, Levo-T®, Synthroid®, Unithroid®, I is important for you to know your medication.

I was Graves 2003 - lost 30 pounds in 2 months. had RAI became Hypo and gained the 30 plus 10 in 4 years. I still am carrying the weight.

I had the same idea I think you have. OK - get RAI - take a pill for life and go back to normal. Well not for me --- and not for many others.

I don't want to burst any bubbles - but it will take time for your body to balance. You may never "lose the weight" and then you may.

but don't think for one moment that this magic hormone pill will make you like you were. RAI changes many components in your body and YOU MUST make sure you educate yourself on your disease. and that IS exactly what it is.

The more you figure out how your body is working now and what you need to do to get yourself balanced - the better chance you have to feeling better.
