When will i feel better on vitamin D

I have been taking 50,000 units once weekly and 1000 units daily of vitamin D for three weeks, since being diagnosed severely deficient.  After about 6 days i felt my pain lessen and my depression lift, but a few days later I felt badly again.  I am just wondering about the average time it should take to make a real, more constant, difference in how I feel.

thanks for your response.  I am hopfully expecting my pain to continue to lessen and my energy level to increase.  I have had fibromyalgia for 17 years ( and I am only 40 ). I didn't think I could feel any worse until this vit-d issue arose.  My muscles always hurt, but I developed join pain with the deficiency.  I am hoping it will resolve completely.  Good luck to you and getting your thyroid stablized.

I noticed about two weeks after starting the D3 that my depression was reduced. I wasn't expecting it, so it was a nice surprise, and dramatic enough that I noticed it.

None of my symptoms have gone completely, but I don't expect them to until my thyroid hormones are stable for a while.

Thanks for the explanation. I learn something new every day here.

Best of luck to you.
Let us know how it goes with the D3.

Unfortunately, I do not know what my calcium levels are.  I see my MD April 11, so I will be sure to find out.  I, too, thought 50,000 units sounded enormous.  So, i did some online checking and apparently it is a common prescribed dosage for extreme deficit. I also did some research on toxicity and apparently it is easier to get toxic on high daily doses than one mega dose. I have been told I will take that dose for 4 months.  It is administered in one small blue tablet and the 1000 units I take is in the form of caltrate.  To those who are feeling better...how long did it take?  My fatigue is somewhat better, depression much better, but I still hurt and my hair hasn't begun to grow back.  Thanks in advance for your reply

With too much vit d you can become toxic.  I had to take vit d too (not that much though) then was encouraged to cut back for this reason.  When I would increase it again I'd feel better for like a day or so then would feel bad again.  I think it was creating a rebound affect.  Now I take a much lower dose and stay there.

Be careful.  Perhaps you should pursue a follow-up appt. with your dr soon.

Good grief!

I'm taking 1,000IU a day of vitamin D3. It's helped a lot.

50,000IU once a week? That's huge. How long are you supposed to do that? Is it a shot? A pill the size of a Bic lighter?

Why aren't you taking 9,000IU a day instead? It pains me to even type that question. I doubt your body can utilize that much at one time.

Could you explain how the 50,000IU is administered, and how it is absorbed? How often will your D be checked before the 50,000IU is discontinued?

Excuse my gape jawed attitude. I am ignorant and would like to hear more about this weekly mega-dose.
