It's not that it meses up your labs, it is that your body has to adjust to the new dose, just like it had to adjust to your last dose. It's the same for many meds.
Definitely, on the endo - get one - it's no fun messing around with a doctor who has no clue.
Sounds like your rheumy just doesn't want to deal with your thyroid issues. She probably realizes she's not equipped to treat thyroid...good for her if she sends you to someone who knows more. Too many doctors think they know way more than they do.
You are doing the right thing by going to an Endo. Your rheumy was wrong on not doing the lab work, of course it could had just been an excuse to not run it...
Get control of your thyroid so you don't end up like most of us...
You are by no means OLD....I always just say WISER...
Thanks for the comments. I was pretty sure the rheumy had it wrong, but she wouldn't do a thyroid test because I had missed a dose. Have only been on thyroid meds for a couple of months. She did say she wanted me to find an endo for the thyroid issues. I'm thinking that may not be a bad idea, lol, even though I feel as if I am being bombarded with doctors sometimes.
I looked up dosing info on several websites and they all say the same thing, if you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember unless it is time for the next dose.
Maybe it's not too late for med school, I'm only 52, lol. Sometimes I feel as if I'm already enrolled, given all the research I have done.
Sorry, still waking up...I'm sure the Synthroid insert is available online, too. Check out their website.
I agree with Totie...one day is not going to mess up your labs for six weeks. If you forget your pill, but remember soon after, you can still take it. However, if you don't remember until it's almost time for the next pill, don't double up, just resume your normal dose.
If you can get ahold of the big long dosage instructions that come in the bottle of Synthroid (you might ask your pharmacist for one), I think that information is on it.
I have always heard the opposite. My doctors and even pharmacists tell me it is not a big deal if you miss one dose.
I have missed doses (not all in one time, but have missed a dose before) and not once did it alter my levels.
But I suppose everyone's body is different on how they react to things.
