I just had my thyroid removed due to cancer on one side.....I just stared taking synthroid and am wondering if  white bumps on my tongue are a side effect or ???

I feel better already....thank you so much Stella...and your thinking I'm sure is right..
Yes I have had discomfort with my tongue.  It is swollen, tingles and burns a lot and the bumps hurt like heck.  The only relief I've found is ice, which really does work well.  My lips feel funny as well.  Dry & swollen.  And yes on the dry throat and thirst. My throat is sore, my skin is very dry and I have headaches.   Nothing tasted good for like 3-4 days after starting the meds listed below.  But that only lasted a few days.
I did have the RAI ( a small dose ) on the 18th of March...then a full body scan on the 21st and another RAI treatment (big dose) on the 25th....
I started the synthroid 100 mcg's , once a day and 25 mcg's of cytomel 3 times a day (for a week only) on the 28th.
The bumps got bad last night the the 2nd of April after taking the meds for 5 days.
I go in for my last full body scan today....
I wonder if the dose is too high or too low or it just takes time for your body to adjust??
I hope this helps someone else understand it may just be normal.
Thanks again and good luck to all.....Let your doctor know....maybe they will see eventually if enough of us let them know these things are happening...

This is so overwhemingly common - yet no doctor will put this puzzle together - at least in my luck.

After digging for 5 years - I strongly believe this is a side effect of thyroid medications. I lean towards this bieng an imbalance on PH levels within the body with some individuals. HAve you had any discomfort within the tongue itself? Burning - swolleness of anything you can describe? Do you notice dry throat and thirst?

Did you undergo RAI treatment after the TT?

Also what meds are you on?
