Why was my hospital performed FNA biopsy sent out for confirmation?

I had an FNA biopsy for thyroid nodules 8 days ago. After two days of the samples being at the hospital where the biopsy was performed, they were sent out to Mayo Clinic for confirmation. Still no answer. Does anyone know what this means? Why couldn't everything be finished at my hospital? Is it possible that they have an idea of what is wrong and are not telling me?

I can't take this waiting... total I've waited over a month to find out why I'm having symptoms (i.e. sore throat, cough, swelling, etc.)

In questionable cases the second opinion is needed. It does not always mean the bad news. For instance if a loot of blood is present in the sample more special preparation to the sample is required.
