Will a swollen throat throw off thyroid bld test results?

Hi all.  I feel wimpy asking but, my throat has been beet red and sore for a couple days.  Tonight it is swollen on the outside in which makes it hard to swallow.  This has happened alot in the past and I was told not to worry about it that it was just my lymph nodes unless it made it hard to breath not to worry about it.  I've been tested for strep many times and that's not it.

My question is my thyroid test were supposed to be tomorrow morning.  From what I've read about the thyroid and other peoples post well;  Now I'm afraid this is going to give me bad test results.  Should I wait until the swelling goes down to get tested.

Today I tried (LOL) to get up the nerve to ask for additional test; but, now I'm questioning if this will throw any thyroid test off.
It's funny how easy it is ask for others or to tell others to request but when it comes to my own I turn into a wimp.  LOL

My question: Should I wait or keep to the schedule of exactly 2 months?  I would like to get good results and defiantly not false ones.

Hi. I called yesterday and well I have an appointment on Monday to speak with another doctor (mine is on vacation) concerning testing for more than just a TSH and FT4.  My husband seems to think I should stay quite in fear of making them all mad at me.  I just don't want to mess around with the thyroid and I feel that with all of my symptoms that it warrants other blood test.

I've had a lot of these symptoms for 5 years and they are getting worse at times.  Maybe it's just me reading too much on the internet researching and time on here.  I don't know?  I just get so frustrated feeling 20 years older than what I am.  I'm trying to educate myself and figure it out now on my own time to bring up suggestions to my doctor this year.

Thank you for all of your post.  And stella5349  LOL.  Thanks for the push.  I hope everything is well with all of you and thanks again;  Amy

It sounds to me like you have some real concerns on your health.

Why is it so hard to challenge your doctor to get further testing?  If your doctor gives you the impression that you need to "hold back" or you feel uncomfortable asking him to run tests - why do you see him?

This is a professional  that patients seek to make them feel better - not add more stress.

I would evaluate you first - then after you know what you want - i.e feel better - then I would go in and get that going.

I don't think you will find one person here that is overly excited about taking medication PERIOD. but they will seek other meds - if they feel they are not better on the one they are on.

Whine - vent and post all you want here - this is a support group. BUT there comes a time in the individuals situation where the PATIENT must take the horns of the bull and be their own advocant with their caring doctor. Unless you choose to remain in this state.

you stated: The only reason for the thyroid antibodies are because of an elevated WBC for years and from what I've been told or read threw post or personal messages.

That is not necessarily true. - you need to test to get to the bottom of the root. WBC's are not the total reason for antibody abnormalities.

You obviously have something going on - My advice - start the process to feel better.

Hi  Actually I should reword the "I don't feel sick at all" statement.  What I meant to say was that I don't feel as if it is a cold or flu like symptoms.  This is something that just seems to happen.  The only reason for the thyroid antibodies are because of an elevated WBC for years and from what I've been told or read threw post or personal messages.

I am very tired most of the time regardless of how much sleep I get.  My HR tracker was starting to look like an EKG recording.  LOL  My muscles ache at times all over and my lymph nodes in my neck and underarms have been swelling again right on my 3 month schedule.  My skin looks like a red, blue and white marbled floor.  I just got glasses this year (bifocals) and still can't see right.  Just feel run down and my emotions have not been me at all!  Sorry for the whine; but, thats me in a nutshell.

I've been on thyroid med's now (levothyroxine) for almost 2 months and I was just concerned with getting a reading that was not right (at the time) in which to judge my thyroid med's off of.   If all of that makes sense.  Like I said before I am new to all of the thyroid stuff.  I HATE med changes.  Sorry for the vent.
I'm probably concerned over nothing anyhow.  It's getting late though so I'm going to bed to be rested in case I do get them done tomorrow.  Thank you for your inputs.  Take care;  Amy

Hi.  I'm going to ask for a full thyroid panel and  a PTH due to the cramps and massive salt cravings.  Possibly thyroid antibodies???  Probably not in fear of pushing it though.

She gave me a slip for an HAIC (for hyperglycemia), Iron panel and TSH  T4 free.  I don't feel sick at all and this happens about every couple months with me where the right side of my esophagus about 2 fingers up from the dip in my neck becomes swollen.  In a couple days the uvula and palate will probably turn white.

OK - so my PM does make sense to other people -- not just me! LOL - I just pm'd a reply to my dear Amy that resembled this!  Yes ---- I am getting the hang of some of this thyroid crud!

NOTE TO SELF ---- GETTING THE HANG OF THYROID STUFF MAY NOT BE A GOOD THING GIRL!

lol - you have to understand, I am delerious right now!  I HATE PACKING.

Are you talking about standard bloodwork?
What extra testing do you want?

I'm not sure, but I don't think swollen glands will throw off your thyroid hormone tests. Now a CBC (blood) panel, yeah, it could throw it off.

It might throw off thyroid antibody testing.

It shouldn't throw anything off.  Try zinc lozenges - they are great for flu, colds, and sore throats.
