An ultrasound revealed a growth on my thyroid, but the endocrinologist said it didn't have "the signs" of a cancerous growth, and it's small, so they're just keeping an eye on it. Meanwhile, he put me on 25mcg of levothyroxine, which made me crazy, so he allowed me to cut the pill in half. For 2-1/2 weeks, I've been taking half doses first thing in the morning and then waiting two hours to eat. I then take all my vitamins, including zinc and selenium and Acai.
I feel awful. I have tightness in the chest, feel like crying, have palpitations, and have trouble swallowing. Before I went to the endocrinologist, I went to my GP to get something for flagging libido and painful sex. He put me on 1 gram of Premarin for 2 weeks and then 1 gram 2x week.
My question is, could the Premarin have given a false reading? I had the lab right after first taking it for 2 weeks solid. My endocrinologist suspects Hashimoto's because of my symptoms: dry skin, weight gain, fatigue. I'm 58. Also, can you just stop taking levothyroxine, or do you have to gradually wind down?
As far as the "nodule"?? or is it just a goiter without nodules?? They can grow and it's important to have them checked every 6mos. The most important thing is to determine whether the "nodule" (if any) are cancerous and the only way to do that is to have an FNA Biopsy (Fine Needle Aspiration) of the nodule if it is larger than 1cm.
